General Feedback

Do you have an idea or suggestion based on your experience with Windows Server? We would love to hear it! Please take a few minutes to submit your idea in the one of the forums available on the right or vote up an idea submitted by another Windows Server customer. All of the feedback you share in these forums is monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Windows Server. Suggestions can apply to both released and Technical Preview versions of Windows Server.

Important:

1. Remote Desktop Services (RDS)-related feedback must be provided in their UV site: https://remotedesktop.uservoice.com/forums/266795-remote-desktop-services-for-enterprises

2. Requests for feature changes around the end-user experience, such as desktop shell, start menu, individual consumer apps, etc. must be provided through the Windows 10 Feedback Hub tool. We have no ownership of these types of non-Windows Server components.

3. This forum (General Feedback) is used for any broad feedback related to Windows Server. Feedback for specific areas like Storage, Networking, Virtualization, Nano Server, etc., should be provided in one of the forums available on the right. It is not for bug filings. If you find a bug with Windows Server please open a support case at https://support.microsoft.com and report it – these cases are free.

  1. Allow MD5 Authentication for Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)

We are setting up the BGP on windows, but our infrastructure require the MD5 authentication to be set. But seems the MD5 auth is not yet supported : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/openspecs/windows_protocols/ms-bgpp/633b3b23-7865-47cb-8457-c9fb4311c42e

Can you please make this available please ? That would be really great !

  2. Add build number to WSUS

WSUS does not show the build number of the OS. If you add "Version" to the overview, the version of "Windows Update Engine" shows up. Because 1903, 1909, 2004 and 20H2 use the same Windows Update Engine, the number stays the same.

We want to see the build number of the OS versions! And not the Windows Update Engine version!

20H2 should show up as 19042.572 and not as 19041.546!

  4. Cut Copy and Paste

Enabling Cut Copy and Paste between the Local host and the RD would be great. This is standard stuff for any VM ware.

  5. RRAS L2TP broken on Big Sur and iOS 14

    support [dot] apple [dot] com/en-us/HT211840

Connecting to RRAS L2TP VPN on Macs is broken by the most recent Apple updates. Seems we need to be able to "truncate the output of the SHA-256 hash to 128 bits" in RRAS but are currently unable to do so

  7. Not working with Big Sur

Microsoft RDP is not working with the new Mac OS update (Big Sur), it would be great if that is made compatible with Big Sur.

  8. Abolish the non-conforming administrators_authorized_keys ssh file

Knock it off and just do it right this time. No one needs or wants this genuinely Microsoft bastardization. It's beyond idiotic to whisk these keys away into programdata - it's slightly insane. Just figure it out and quit it with the terrible hacks.

  9. PXEBoot of .iso could be improved

WDSLinux and other similar efforts try to mannualy enable WDS to do a better experience with PXE boots of many, many boot images currently being used. As we move to containers and other bare metal runtimes for cloud (Azure Stack HCI, etc...) it is becoming very important to support arbitrary boot agents for any remotetly shared .iso files.
WIM is an amazing dedup idea, but most software nowadays is more "self-contained" and the simplicity to manage .ISO images on a catalog should be much better than merging WIM/DISM files. WIM should be an advanced technique (for compression/speed), not the easy…

  11. Use Windows 7 "Help and Support" configuration in Windows 10, or give the option to Use.

As a "Newbie" like myself and hungry for learning I have tried both Windows 10 and Windows 7 Help and Support and have found Windows 7 more use full, informative and the ease of problem solving is unmatchable.

  12. Add support for RADSEC (RFC 6614) in NPS

This RFC addresses several reliability and security limitations for RADIUS. Support and requirement for RADIUS over TCP and for using certificate trust to replace RADIUS secrets are becoming mainstream and therefore necessary use cases to support.

  14. Storage Migration Service (SMS) - Individual folders Inventory

Can we have the option to select a specific folder(s) while adding source device for the Inventory scan in SMS.

Will helps to identify folders specific errors in details rather than from PartiallySucceeded folders for device level scan at source.

  15. Prioritize proficiency of computation within and throughout kernel limits

Windows is primarily utilized with Office and associated developer software to deal with ("financial") data sheets based on our clients. Optimizing for high-performance data processing via kernel retrofit programming would be quite useful. Thank you.

  16. Support AMD FirePro™S-Series on Hyper-V with SR-IOV allowing DDA to VMs

AMD FirePro S Series graphics card are server-class GPUs.
They also support SR-IOV, so one physical AMD FirePro S7150 GPU can appear to be multiple GPUs to the hypervisor. You should then be able to assign a GPU using Discrete Device Assignment (DDA) to a VM, then within the VM treat it as a full GPU.
    It seems that all the building blocks are in place;

  17. Repair Task Scheduler on Server 2019

I have been fighting task scheduler for a while and have determined that there is most definitely an issue with task scheduler

we have a batch file that calls an executable.
We can run that batch file from the file explorer and we can watch with a ui and see all the different actions being taken, typically about 120 lines of actions. and this typically takes about a minute and a half to run.

When we put that same batch file in task scheduler and run it on maybe a reocurrance of every 10 minutes, task scheduler starts the task,…

  18. Maintain Office 365 support for Server 2012 R2 or supply workaround

I believe Office 365 should maintain support for Server 2012 R2 until that operating system reaches its end of life, which isn't for another few years in 2023.

Organizations like mine have a dependence on Server 2012 R2 due to certain application needs, interoperability, support and other requirements. In our case, an entire virtual desktop shared environment which supports over 100 users relies on Server 2012 R2 which also runs Office 365 and has for a number of years with no issue.

Microsoft has decided to drop support for Office 365 on Server 2012 R2 this January, which is unacceptable;…

  20. Cloud Witness using Azure Private Link Storage

Currently, configuring a windows server cloud witness using an Azure storage account is assuming the storage account is a public one. Can we update the UI to make allocations for a private link url? I think the only update here will be allowing users to specify their own endpoint url (which would be passed to Set-ClusterQuorum as the Endpoint option.
