The promise of the new Windows10 Universal Apps is that they will run anywhere. That should include the server and Azure. I'd like to write my core libraries so that the code can be used on phones, tablets, PCs, Consoles and in the cloud.
I especially want access to the MediaComposition and Win2D libraries for rendering my animations to video which I can then send to Azure Media Services for transcoding.8 votes
In the past I have always been able to call my WinForms or WPF or any Win32 code from my server-side applications. This was useful for rendering media on the fly to serve up on a web site.
As far as I can tell, much of the UWP API set isn't available to the server. I'm thinking of the UI Composition layer and the video and audio APIs.1 vote
