Please take a few minutes to submit your idea in the one of the forums available on the right or vote up an idea submitted by another Windows Server customer. All of the feedback you share in these forums is monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Windows Server. Suggestions can apply to both released and Technical Preview versions of Windows Server.

Important:

1. Remote Desktop Services (RDS)-related feedback must be provided in their UV site: https://remotedesktop.uservoice.com/forums/266795-remote-desktop-services-for-enterprises

2. Requests for feature changes around the end-user experience, such as desktop shell, start menu, individual consumer apps, etc. must be provided through the Windows 10 Feedback Hub tool. We have no ownership of these types of non-Windows Server components.

3. This forum (General Feedback) is used for any broad feedback related to Windows Server. Feedback for specific areas like Storage, Networking, Virtualization, Nano Server, etc., should be provided in one of the forums available on the right. It is not for bug filings. 1. Windows Updates shouldn't fail constantly or take hours to complete

I have a number of 2016 servers. It seems like 99% of them fail when doing automatic updates. I am able to install them manually by going through sconfig and selecting option 6 but it takes FOREVER. During installation, the CPU or Memory isn't maxed out at 100% so I have no idea what is causing it to take forever. All other previous versions of Windows run and install updates just fine in the same VMware environment.

  2. Can you save a desktop connections configuration, etc.?

Can we somehow save the configuration of all the RDs that takes awhile to set up 25 servers, VMs, etc. If we need a system rebuilt, I don't want to have to recreate from scratch.

  3. Update ADMT to be able to migrate Windows Apps

We are currently waiting for Windows 10 to be fully supported within ADMT. We can migrate the user, system but all complete with errors regarding Windows store apps. I do not want to fork out extra $$ just because Microsoft hasn't updated their basic tool yet. If we could migrate properly we would have bought more CALs.

  5. For Active Directory Certificate Services (MS ADCS), allow numbers greater than 999 to be entered in the Role Installation wizard.

When specifying the validity period for a Root CA, although the period can be changed to days, months, weeks or years, the value has a maximum value of 999. This is useless when it is necessary to accurately specify a number of days when the Root CA certificate should be valid for beyond 999 days etc.

  6. For Active Directory Certificate Services (MS ADCS), fix the Certification Authority console so that AIA/CDP fields can be edited!

Currently, using the Certification Authority MMC, AIA/CRL fields can only be deleted/added via the CDP/AIA tabs. There should also be an 'edit' button such that these entries can be edited.

  7. Microsoft Remote Desktop Client for Mac version 10

Previous versions of RDP for Mac stored passwords in the keychain. Please return to this method. If not, you need to at least give users a method to retrieve a password
    I LOVE Mac RDP v 10, but that's a dealbreaker. I'm going back to v8

  8. Basic Direct Access for Windows 10 PRO and home users.

It appears a feature of Windows server 2012 Essentials R2 has been removed from windows 10 PRO and Home editions. It worked until the latest upgrade last week. Previous page on this site does not show it not available except the advanced version. It worked till last week. It did have similar issues earlier in the year.

  9. Server 2016 not installing updates at the scheduled time set via Group Policy. Cumulative updates always fail with 0x800705b4.

Server 2016 not installing updates at the scheduled time set via Group Policy. Cumulative updates always fail with 0x800705b4.

It takes FOREVER, but if I manually download the update, it will install. If I had one server, I'd say it's my problem, but every server 2016 server I've deployed has this problem. What gives!?!?!

  10. Suggession to imporve Active Directory

There should be an Active Directory Object for main office and other/field locations, Members tab to add bulk users and a drop-down menu in every user account to simply choose which office do they belong to as well. Also, it would be awesome to have a drop-down menu for every user account to bind with domain-joined or non-domain joined PC.
This makes Active Directory and User management way easier, System Administrators can also keep a track of assigned devices to every user, change the location details easily of course for bulk users by creating an office location object and adding…

  12. [WSFC - CNO] ::: Provision to change the ManagementPointNetworkType of an existing Cluster i.e. between Singleton & Distributed

It’s about making an enhancement on the new feature ManagementPointNetworkType introduced in RS3 which will improve Cluster Connectivity from the behavior what we see today.

History: Until RS3, this wasn’t configurable & the cluster’s CNO will be what’s created using MPNT as Singleton. RS3 onwards this can be set as Distributed.
    You’ll ask: What's the difference?
A CNO of type Singleton needs an IP address while the Distributed ones don’t. This is a boon for the AZURE based WSFC deployments, which are currently using 169.254.x.y and are useless for any remote connections or anything but taking space in AD otherwise…

  14. OneSyncSvc

We support WS2016 for a few SMB's, with tightly controlled RDS environments for business-only applications. We understand One Sync being potentially useful in this environment. A recent update turned this service on by default. Sure we can fix it, but possibly from a a security aspect, minimising attack surface, yadayada, this may not be an optimal default.

  16. Upgrade a server running core to the next version. Example 1709 to 1803

Please post the methods to upgrade Short Term Service Branch Servers. If we are going to be living with these servers for less then 18 months we need to understand the methods for upgrades.

  17. How to modify the default configuration of RDP?

In default configuration, security was set to 'Warn me if authentication fails'. I want to set 'Always connect, even if authentication fails' as default. I found Default.rdp in RDC Connections folder but can not find 'security' setting.

  19. Add the ability to log certificate thumbprints to NPS authentications

This would be very helpful for us to be able to monitor for devices using certificates that are close to expiring.
