  1. Windows Updates shouldn't fail constantly or take hours to complete

I have a number of 2016 servers. It seems like 99% of them fail when doing automatic updates. I am able to install them manually by going through sconfig and selecting option 6 but it takes FOREVER. During installation, the CPU or Memory isn't maxed out at 100% so I have no idea what is causing it to take forever. All other previous versions of Windows run and install updates just fine in the same VMware environment.

  3. Stop the "Windows update madness" on WS2016!

Dear Microsoft Windows Server team. We would like _complete control_ over when we would like our our WS2016 to install windows updates! No more slow / timeconsuming server restarts because of "Getting Windows ready. Do not turn off your computer" messages when we just would like a quick restart of a production server.. No more TiWorker.exe using 100% of a CPU core during "*********" and so on.. And please fix the issues with '2017-08 Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4035631)' asap. Thank you.

  4. Significantly increase the number of Banned IPs that can be stored in ADFS.

ADFS 2019 allows for 300 IPs to be added to the "Banned IP list"

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/identity/ad-fs/operations/configure-ad-fs-banned-ip#adding-banned-ips

As there are nearly four billion public IPs on the internet, 300 is woefully inadequate.

Small customers that are only trying to block a few users aren't likely using ADFS anyway. Large organizations that rely on ADFS will hit the 300 limit almost immediately.

I'd like to see this number raised to 65538 (/16) or something similar.

  5. Finer WSUS categories, especially by architecture and Windows 10 subversion

I end up declining 80% of all WSUS updates, because my products all use x64 architecture, hence I don't need ARM64, Itanium or IA-32 updates. As for Windows 10, I don't need updates for versions 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703 and 1709. There should be an easy way to tell WSUS not get any of these updates during synchronization.

  6. Windows Server 2016 updates take over an hour, unacceptable!

Updates in Server2012 and even Server2008 are much quicker and you at least get a gauge as to how long.
Not the useless 'Getting windows ready' + rotating dots, aaaarrggghhh!

  7. Upgrade a server running core to the next version. Example 1709 to 1803

Please post the methods to upgrade Short Term Service Branch Servers. If we are going to be living with these servers for less then 18 months we need to understand the methods for upgrades.

  8. Update registry value when w32tm /config type=ntp and ntpserver=ntp.org

After w32tm /config on PDCe, the registry still contains original domain values.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters
    ...
    NtpServer REG_SZ "time.windows.com,0x9"
    Type REG_SZ "NT5DS

    But w32tm configuration displays...
    w32tm /query /configuration
    ...
    Type: NTP (Policy)
    NtpServer: pool.ntp.org (Policy)

    See details here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f633ea8a-81be-4a60-83fd-c9839f6a14f9/when-i-look-at-the-w32tm-registry-values-they-do-not-agree-with-query-status?forum=winserver8gen

  9. Give stronger controls to enable updates to occur without requiring a user to be logged in.

For my business, it seems like no matter how the IT department sets the network policies, 90% of the patches and updates will only occur AFTER a user is logged in. This seriously degrades the ability of the workers to conduct business. In a large business, even 15 minutes once a week is a substantial cost. Allow network adminstration policies to be established so that upgrades and patches are designed to occur WITHOUT being triggered by a user LOG-IN event.

  10. Windows Server 2016 allows a maximum of 12 active hours. This needs to be increased.

active hours on the update screen can be a maximum of 12 hours. this needs to be extended to 23 hours. Many servers are actively used for more than 12 hours by users from multiple shifts and reboots should not take place while users are accessing files on the server.

  11. Pooor terminology

"users have to authenticate themselves to the network before they can connect to your PC."

I have a network consisting of multiple computers with Ethernet ports tied through an Ethernet Switch. How can you authenticate yourself to a switch?

  12. Hyper-V: Allow Replication also if one of the disks are physical

Actually i can't enable replication if one disk is a physical disk, also if i don't plan to enable replication for the physical disk. I would prefer to enable replication without this physical disk, but for the other virtual disks.
It seem to be only an block in the Hyper-V Manager, so it would be great to move this check for blocking the replication after the user was able to select the disk to be replicated.
Only if here the physical disk is still enabled, block the replication with the corresponding error message:

    "Replication can't be activated. Replication can't activated…

  15. Windows server images should not install deskop services such as Maps, One sync

Windows server should have the option to NOT install desktop services which are very unlikely to be used in a corporate environment these include Maps, Onsync, and XBox. Not only do they appear to be unnecessary they cause false positives with system monitoring software.

  17. Add a cache drive to normal storage spaces

It would be really handy if we could add SSD and NVMe drives to a normal Storage Space, as tiered/cache storage. Like you can in Storage Spaces Direct. Only less complex and less requirements...

Ideally, I'd like to be able to add them after the Storage Space has been created.

e.g. I currently have 4x4TB USB HDs in my storage space, to keep cost down, but it would be handy to put an SSD drive (internally connected, not USB) to provide performance.

  18. Hyper-V Error messages without copy message and without an Error ID - it's a shame

M$ is really doing it's best to make the work with their products as hard as possible. This is example 291:

If Hyper-V is not able to start a VM, then we get a lot of GUIDs.
Of course, M$ no longer offers a professional path to the solution:

    a) M$ no longer displays a unique Error ID. So we have to google for Text and try to find the best matching solution.

    b) M$ does not allow to past the Error Message to the Clipboard, so we have to find a useful workaround to get the details.

    It's really…
