General Feedback

Do you have an idea or suggestion based on your experience with Windows Server? We would love to hear it! Please take a few minutes to submit your idea in the one of the forums available on the right or vote up an idea submitted by another Windows Server customer. All of the feedback you share in these forums is monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Windows Server. Suggestions can apply to both released and Technical Preview versions of Windows Server.

Important:

1. Remote Desktop Services (RDS)-related feedback must be provided in their UV site: https://remotedesktop.uservoice.com/forums/266795-remote-desktop-services-for-enterprises

2. Requests for feature changes around the end-user experience, such as desktop shell, start menu, individual consumer apps, etc. must be provided through the Windows 10 Feedback Hub tool. We have no ownership of these types of non-Windows Server components.

3. This forum (General Feedback) is used for any broad feedback related to Windows Server. Feedback for specific areas like Storage, Networking, Virtualization, Nano Server, etc., should be provided in one of the forums available on the right. It is not for bug filings. If you find a bug with Windows Server please open a support case at https://support.microsoft.com and report it – these cases are free.

  1. Prioritize proficiency of computation within and throughout kernel limits

Windows is primarily utilized with Office and associated developer software to deal with ("financial") data sheets based on our clients. Optimizing for high-performance data processing via kernel retrofit programming would be quite useful. Thank you.

  2. Support AMD FirePro™S-Series on Hyper-V with SR-IOV allowing DDA to VMs

AMD FirePro S Series graphics card are server-class GPUs.
They also support SR-IOV, so one physical AMD FirePro S7150 GPU can appear to be multiple GPUs to the hypervisor. You should then be able to assign a GPU using Discrete Device Assignment (DDA) to a VM, then within the VM treat it as a full GPU.
    It seems that all the building blocks are in place;

  3. Use Windows 7 "Help and Support" configuration in Windows 10, or give the option to Use.

As a "Newbie" like myself and hungry for learning I have tried both Windows 10 and Windows 7 Help and Support and have found Windows 7 more use full, informative and the ease of problem solving is unmatchable.

  4. I would like to see an APP that checks for the safety of my personal data

I am a 77year old newbie, elderly, retired United States Irish male looking to obtain additional money to enhance my retirement time for myself, my wife, my children and my grandchildren without having to be a victim of another SCAM.

  5. Add a method of launching the RDP client from a browser

    Like this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-desktop-services/clients/remote-desktop-uri

    But
    - It works
    - It works from a browser (chrome, edge, firefox)

Basically, enter a URL in some specified format, and it'll launch the RDP client, and maybe even auto-connect to the specified server (a preference maybe?).

  6. nslookup - allow setting the source ip address

When connecting to different networks with different dns servers, you often need to specify the correct source IP address but currently nslookup has no option for this.

  7. Storage Migration Service (SMS) - Individual folders Inventory

Can we have the option to select a specific folder(s) while adding source device for the Inventory scan in SMS.

Will helps to identify folders specific errors in details rather than from PartiallySucceeded folders for device level scan at source.

  9. Maintain Office 365 support for Server 2012 R2 or supply workaround

I believe Office 365 should maintain support for Server 2012 R2 until that operating system reaches its end of life, which isn't for another few years in 2023.

Organizations like mine have a dependence on Server 2012 R2 due to certain application needs, interoperability, support and other requirements. In our case, an entire virtual desktop shared environment which supports over 100 users relies on Server 2012 R2 which also runs Office 365 and has for a number of years with no issue.

Microsoft has decided to drop support for Office 365 on Server 2012 R2 this January, which is unacceptable;…

  11. Cloud Witness using Azure Private Link Storage

Currently, configuring a windows server cloud witness using an Azure storage account is assuming the storage account is a public one. Can we update the UI to make allocations for a private link url? I think the only update here will be allowing users to specify their own endpoint url (which would be passed to Set-ClusterQuorum as the Endpoint option.

  13. Remote Desktop for OS10.11

Do you have a link to download a version of Remote Desktop that is compliment with OS10.11? The version currently on the Appstore will not run on OS10.11. I can not upgrade beyond OS10 because my Mac does' have the power to run a newer OS. Please send a link. Thanks in advance. Andrew

  18. RDS HTML5 client resize locking up session

When connecting to a VDI session (individual win 10 machines) with regular RDP GPU, the session goes black when trying to resize to fullscreen. This is not happening with a session host.

  19. Add an upgrade path to upgrade a client OS (e.g. Windows 10 Pro) to Windows Server.

A lot of small organizations start off using something like Windows 10 Pro for their server, but as the organization grows they'd like to upgrade in place to Windows Server. Right now, you can't do that. So I have seen a lot of organizations stay using the non-server OS basically until the server hardware fails and the recovery needs a clean install anyway. An in place upgrade path would definitely increase sales.
