  1. Add file hash checking capability to Task Scheduler

Scheduled Tasks should have the ability to verify a file’s authenticity prior to executing. For example, if a Scheduled Task is executing a PowerShell script that is being run with an account that has Domain Admin rights, anyone that has access to modify the PowerShell script on the server essentially has Domain Admin rights.

If there was an option added to the Scheduled Task setup where the owner could input the file hash of the PowerShell script and Task Scheduler checked the hash prior to executing the script, it would eliminate unauthorized changes.
One example where this would stop malicious…

  2. Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 10 (RSAT) fr-CA

I live in Québec in Canada and we would love to install the RSAT tool with our regional parameter but it is not available actually.

We need to install a language pack to successfully install it

Can you release a version of the RSAT tool for fr-CA ?

  3. Print Spooler Isolation

Ever since Windows server 2012 we have had printer driver isolation, but there is a need for print spooler isolation. This would allow for an individual spooler for a printer to be stopped and the jobs deleted without affecting all other printers on the print server. This could be done in a method where the main print spooler service spawns child instances for each print and then through an api you would be able to stop and start these child instances.

  4. active directory administrative center search feature is incomplete

well, WTH?! ADUC lets you find users, computers, group, printers, shares, etc.

why on earth the new ADAC is lacking this feature? why don't you have the option to choose primitive object types in ADAC search as you can in ADUC? I know you have LDAP query builder and all that (which is awesome by the way); but shouldn't simple stuff be available and intuitive stuff be as easy as they have always been with newer tools?

  5. Allow Microsoft Edge Favorites to be easily managed like the Internet Explorer Favorites folder structure and support folder redirection

Allow Microsoft Edge Favorites to be easily managed like the Internet Explorer Favorites folder structure (end user-manageable) and support folder redirection (especially in the Enterprise edition of Windows 10). The IE Favorites folder can be redirected to a network location and available on any computer a user logs into, Edge Favorites are stuck on the local hard drive in a non-user manageable form (ESE database). The same goes for Sticky Notes, in Windows 7 they were stored in the Roaming AppData folder and followed a user across computers. Now they have been converted to a "modern UI app" which is…

  6. RSAT tools to support below the typical N-1 level

Often many of us work in an environment that is evolving to the latest OS, but perhaps technology or development of internal applications have held or slowed us from updating these to current standards. We are encouraged to use RSAT tools to manage these hosts and services, but these tools are only backwards compatible by N-1.

This means that with a Windows 10 (current build) laptop, which will use RSAT for 2016, I cannot manage my older Windows 2012 or even 2008r2 hosts. I then have to either use a VM which is running Win7 or 8.1 with RSAT to…

  7. Windows Server 2016: The message "Windows 10 Creators Update is on its way" has displayed

When I tried to update my Windows Server 2016 from Settings menu, The message "Good news! The Windows 10 Creators Update is on its way. Want to be one of the first to get it?" has shown.
Even though WS2016 and Win10 is different OS.

  8. Bitlocker MFA unlock

This days MFA is getting more and more popular so I was wondering why not add new feature to Windows family so when server boots Bitlocker could be unlocked not by network but by MFA
What do you think would this be even possible ?

  10. Include a MODERN web browser e.g. LTSB Edge browser rather than outdated, unsupported IE11.

It's kind of lame to promote Win2k16 RDSH then not include a modern web browser. Make an LTSB Edge browser, it can't be THAT difficult.

  12. configure the winrm client without starting the winrm server

When trying to user psremoting you have to add a trusted host to your client's trusted hosts. This is fine and we normally default to '*' for developer machines that need to talk to prod and other infra. The problem is that this also requires the developer machine to start the winrm service which 'allows the computer to recieve Windows Powershell remote commands that are sent using the WS-Management technology'. I get pushback from devs who don't want to run this server service and see it as an unecessary security risk. We typically don't need CredSSP or have issues with…

  13. Server : Time Zone change log.

    Hi,

When we change the system time zone,
It would be logged in System Log:
    Event id 1:
    Source : Kernel-General.

    Details :
The system time has changed to ‎2017‎-‎03‎-‎30T07:02:56.704492900Z from ‎2017‎-‎03‎-‎30T07:02:56.704492900Z.

Change Reason: System time adjusted to the new time zone.

    Issue:
The New time and the Old time are the same in the details which will not help much to know from which timezone it had been changed from .

  14. Problems with March 2017 Security Rollup

The moderator from the server forum suggested I post here (please see https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/a894761b-963e-4e4a-a309-d28999209448/march-2017-security-updates-breaks-ntlm-authentication-of-samba-shares-over-netbios?forum=winserversecurity).

We had a production down weekend after installing Microsoft's security March 2017 rollup. This question is to help us understand what was included in the March rollup that broke production in order that we can properly document the workaround.

    Scenario:

    1. Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers.

    2. March 2017 security rollup applied.

    3. SAMBA shares hosted on AIX using NTLM authentication stopped working, giving access denied (client message)
Error on AIX host is: "FAILED with error NTSTATUSNOLOGONSERVERS"
Error on AIX host is: "SPNEGO login failed:…

  15. 2016, WDS, Deduplication: Option to disable RES.WIM usage

A bit of history here. Windows Deployment Services has been around for quite a number of years, and it uses a file-based deduplication mechanism to conserve disk space.

When we capture an image with WDS, what it is actually doing is creating hashes for all files on the disk and then checking to see if those hashes are present in RES.WIM. Any hashed files not present in RES.WIM are copied up to the server, added to RES.WIM, and then the disk image itself is just a list of hashes to pull out of RES.WIM to reconstruct the image.

    Without deduplication,…

  17. Scheduled Tasks do not store domain information of runas account

If you create a scheduled task in Server 2016, the domain information of the user is not saved or stored.
Getting the principal with powershell or exporting the task as xml does not show the domain information either.

  18. SMTP Virtual Server in Server 2016 Core and Nano

2016 Server Core and Nano don't have the ability to add-windowsfeature smtp-server. I feel the SMTP feature would lend itself well to the lightweight nature of Core and Nano.

  19. Set task manager to show total network percent of total capacity

I love Win Server 2012 R2 but HATE the sliding scale for network utilization. Every time I want only % of total bandwidth. If I have a 1GBit connection or a 10Gbit - I want to know if I'm using 1% of it or 15% or whatever. I don't know anyone with a 7.48gbit nic so the math isn't hard. The sliding scale is what I consider good for sleazy sales and marketing departments. PLEASE give us an OPTION to have your autoscale network throughput and a useful percent of total throughput like it had before.

  20. Finally, please describe for each executable (standalone & services) it's necessity to access the Internet

    This is a security issue.

    Hello

It's really strange that we use operating systems which do not describe its executables and their eligibility to access the internet.

If we monitor which programms access the internet on a Windows Machine, then we really often have to google for its executable name and just get informations like "we do'nt know what it does, but it is probably safe to allow internet access".

    Therefore, please:
    1) Finally, create a professional application & service architecture. No, to route everything over svchost.exe is not a secure design. Not at all.

    2) Finally, create a datasheet…
