  1. Support for Network Policy Server (NPS) Role on Server Core

Network Policy Server is an infrastructure services role much like ADDS, ADCS, DNS, and DHCP.

We need to have support for this role added to Server Core. Requiring a GUI for this role means more patches, wasted CPU cycles and wasted memory.

  2. Add option to re-check for updates before installing

When going to apply updates, there should at least be an option to check for updates if updates are already found. This was previously an option through Server 2012 R2 and is no longer possible. Because of this, changes to available updates may not be received by the client computer until after the update list is applied and the server is rebooted. Given how locked down the update interface is now, even having that option automatically happen in the background would be great.

In my environment, I use WSUS to patch all of my servers. This month, KB4041691 was installed…

  3. Disable Hardware Offloads By Default

The vast majority of issues I encounter in the Hyper-V community, are related to hardware offloads such as VMQ and ODX. Microsoft is relying on drivers and firmwares that OEMs are either releasing with incorrect default configurations (VMQ enabled on 1 GbE NICs) or buggy releases (ODX corrupting VHD/X files). And to be honest, I'm thinking of getting business cards printed with "turn off VMQ" and "turn off ODX" on them.

The customers blame Microsoft because "Hyper-V is buggy". It's time to shift the blame on OEMs and to stop giving us the tired line of "we're working with OEMs".…

  4. Upgrade a server running core to the next version. Example 1709 to 1803

Please post the methods to upgrade Short Term Service Branch Servers. If we are going to be living with these servers for less then 18 months we need to understand the methods for upgrades.

  5. Please add install GUI option and provide all powershell options as GUI selectables

During the installation please allow GUI as an option. Also please include most if not all hidden powershell commands as GUI options. It doesn't have to be pretty, but being able to check some boxes with advanced options instead of having to learn all the powershell commands each time would save time (example would be Storage Pools).

  6. Make a search box in windows services

With a huge list of services in Windows services, I would like to have a search box to find rapidly a Windows services. Thanks for vote if you think that will be a good idea.

  7. Resolve the Windows Server 2019 bug stopping it from booting on certain servers with UEFI enabled when the Hyper-V Role is installed.

There's a pretty big problem on some servers (at least two Dell PET Servers I've tried so far) that stops Server 2019 from booting/goes into a boot loop once the Hyper-V role is installed.

  8. Allow PowerShell scripts to run directly in Scheduled Tasks

Please allow to use PowerShell scripts directly within Scheduled Tasks.

An update should offer this functionality for all current supported server versions.

  9. Include support for Group Managed Service Accounts in Task Scheduler GUI

The GUI does not accept entering a gMSA as user for a scheduled task. This can only be done from PowerShell, and after doing that it is not possible to edit the task from GUI.

I would love to see gMSA support in the scheduled tasks GUI.

  10. Disable logon screen background image by default

On Windows Server 2016 Eval (with Desktop Experience), the background image of logon screen is enabled by default.

I feel it would be better to disable by default than to enable.I think such a feature is not needed on the server product and it's better to be simple and to minimize resources for non-service.

  11. Manage Settings (New Control Panel) for RDSH Servers

I am working on a new lockdown group policy that will be used for our future Windows 2016 XenApp servers.

As this will be used for a lot of users, certain things will need to be locked down. For example the Settings need to be locked down in the same way as it possible with Control Panel.

I want to be able to manage what settings is visible in Settings with GPO.

We cannot allow users on a shared RDSH server to install windows update, add VPN connection, check what application is installed etc etc.
    With Control Panel it was…

  12. WSUS on Win2012: Fix issue that causes Windows Server 2016 clients OS to be listed as "Windows (Version 10)"

When using WSUS on Windows 2012 (WSUS 4.x), the WSUS console incorrectly lists Windows Server 2016 clients with Operating System "Windows (Version 10)". This is confusing to customers, and causes them concerns related to reporting, as well as the ability to update Win2016 clients with WSUS on Windows 2012.

This issue does not occur with WSUS on Windows 2016, where Windows Server 2016 clients are listed with Operating System as "Windows Server 2016 <edition>".

  13. Change Your Thinking

I recently downloaded Server 2016 from my VL portal, got it installed/configured for testing, and I just thought I would share my discontent with the product (or unimpressed is likely a better wording). This does not require any input from anyone, or have any questions that need to be answered.

I dislike that they removed the ability to convert from GUI to Core, or Core to GUI. That was a great feature! Sorry I am not a PowerShell guru, but these feature allowed me to be flexible. Add this back in! I read your reasoning online. Find a way to…

  14. Update ADMT to officially support Windows Server 2016 & Recent SQL version

Hi! There is currently no official support for Windows Server 2016 to run ADMT. It remains an important tool and I'm sure many will appreciate not needing to install older versions of Windows to migrate between AD's.

  15. Add hostname to shutdown dialog

Simple idea - add the hostname to the shutdown dialog, ie "Shutdown SERVERNAME". This would stop helpdesk/support personal from cheerfully shutting down critical servers instead of their workstations when going home for the day.

  16. Bug : Task Scheduler Repeat Calendar Trigger

Scheduled tasks on Windows Server 2016, with a Repeat Calendar Trigger, do not appear to start after restarting the server.
The date of departure being exceeded there is no more triggering. The date of the next trigger is correct but nothing happens.
    The manual trigger works correctly.
To reactivate trigger it is necessary to set a later date on the current date.

  17. GPO to change Windows 2016 settings menu on RDS

    Hi,

I have a new Windows 2016 RDS farm.
Is there a possibility to adjust the Windows settings menu?
For example, remove “Update and Security” or “Network and Internet” ….
One problem is that a "normal" user can open the settings menu, install Windows updates and then restart the server. Restart a RDS server????

The only possibility GPO is “Remove access to use all Windows Update feature” but this is a computer policy. When I configure this policy, also admin users have no more access to install updates.

    Thanks
    Michael

  18. Windows Server 2016 loses NTFS permissions

    Folder structure (example):

Company (Company is shared as Company)

    Sales

    Administration
    Office

    Folder Company:
    Share permissions:
    Everyone, Change

    NTFS permissions:
Group “Alle_MAs”, Read, This folder only
    Group “Admin”, “System”, Full control
    right inheritance, disabled

Supfolders of Company (Sales, Administration, Office):
    Folder „Sales“, Group „Sales“, Change
Folder „ Administration“, Group „ Administration“, Change
Folder „ Office“, Group „ Office“, Change

For example, if I delete the folder “Sales”, on the share “Company”, all NTFS permissions have disappeared except for “Administratos” and “System”

    Thanks for your help
    Michael

  19. Windows Server 2016: The message "Windows 10 Creators Update is on its way" has displayed

When I tried to update my Windows Server 2016 from Settings menu, The message "Good news! The Windows 10 Creators Update is on its way. Want to be one of the first to get it?" has shown.
Even though WS2016 and Win10 is different OS.

  20. Include a MODERN web browser e.g. LTSB Edge browser rather than outdated, unsupported IE11.

It's kind of lame to promote Win2k16 RDSH then not include a modern web browser. Make an LTSB Edge browser, it can't be THAT difficult.
