"storage migration service"
Post a list of what the error codes mean in the error log for transferring files with storage migration service. I have no idea what code 2, 32 or 40973 mean! Would be nice to know so I can know why files failed to copy.
I have some very big file servers that I need to separate the drives onto different servers can the Storage migration service do this? One example is I have a 35TB server running on Windows 2008 and I want to split it up into three servers because of backups taking forever to complete.

I was able to find other errors documented in the Windows System Error Code list linked to by Ned, but it does not go up to error 40973, and I haven't seen it documented elsewhere online, except for a few references to Storage Migration Service with little/no help.
This is a reasonable request, will see about adding our custom errors. Generally speaking, SMS errors are Windows errors, which are all defined here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/Debug/system-error-codes
Error 2 is "The system cannot find the file specified."
Error 32 is "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."
