Do you have an idea or suggestion based on your experience with Windows Server? We would love to hear it! Please take a few minutes to submit your idea in the one of the forums available on the right or vote up an idea submitted by another Windows Server customer. All of the feedback you share in these forums is monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Windows Server. Suggestions can apply to both released and Technical Preview versions of Windows Server.

Important:

1. Remote Desktop Services (RDS)-related feedback must be provided in their UV site: https://remotedesktop.uservoice.com/forums/266795-remote-desktop-services-for-enterprises

2. Requests for feature changes around the end-user experience, such as desktop shell, start menu, individual consumer apps, etc. must be provided through the Windows 10 Feedback Hub tool. We have no ownership of these types of non-Windows Server components.

3. This forum (General Feedback) is used for any broad feedback related to Windows Server. Feedback for specific areas like Storage, Networking, Virtualization, Nano Server, etc., should be provided in one of the forums available on the right. It is not for bug filings. 1. add clipboard history feature to Windows Server OR a password manager

I want to have sort of security for "pasting" passwords into legacy apps, from the GUI.
So was surprised that Windows Server 2019 does not have this feature yet of clipboard history just like Windows 10.
Or maybe a password manager with a safe delete after a timeout
I realize it might be anyway a security problem with scripts and stuff.. anyway !

  3. I dont agree with the OpenSSH installation on Windows.

People like Windows cause its a generally easy operating system to use for a non-techy person. The whole Linux based system of using the command prompt to specify which user or groups can access your so called "server" is utter bullshit because for one thing it adds to the things the user would have to learn to use the operating system. Linux is a complicated operating system. Most of the tutorials on Youtube are HOURS long. Lastly and more importantly, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO HAVE ANYONE OR ANY OTHER GROUP TO ACCESS YOUR MACHINE? Absolute privacy on a machine…

  4. Add PathName column to MMC Services Snap-in

I'd like to be able to view and sort executable paths for installed services in the mmc snap-in without opening each service individually. The services snap-in currently includes columns for "Name", "Description", "Status", "Startup Type", and "Log On As". The pathname can be retrieved via PowerShell/WMI query, but it would be helpful in identifying 3rd party and rogue services through the mmc GUI.

I'm attaching a screenshot of the columns available in the services mmc snap-in as well as the WMI output which includes the executable path name.

  5. create local desktop application

my suggestion is to create an application similar to SSMS, which doesn't run the GUI on the target server but on the client station,
so similarly, running application which pulls only data from the target server and shows it on the local GUI, lowering the business of the server

  6. modernize event viewer

Seems like event viewer is stuck in time. Here are some ideas for features to add

quick filters with search as you type
ability to add a column from eventdata that will be searchable by quick filters
ability to use search to locate application and services logs
ability to filter out message not to be displayed
ability to use search queries in a manner similar to loginsight

  7. Add GUI management option for GPU DDA in Hyper-V Manager

Hyper-V Manager does not have a GUI way to add DDA GPUs or manage them. This is really annoying and unnecessary

  8. Kindly fix these problems: 'doskey /listsize' has no effect in Windows 10. Also, 'doskey /reinstall' terminates the command prompt session.

  9. X11 forwarding in OpenSSH Server not implemented?

It is simply unbelievable that the ssh server that microsoft provides does not include one of the most basic features of ssh. X11 forwarding. I wasted 3 hours of my life try to export an application from a windows machine my linux box.

  10. Add gMSA support for DNS Dynamic Update Registration Credentials in DHCP

DNS Dynamic Update Registration Credentials in DHCP Management Console or PowerShell (Set-DHCPServerDNSCredential) do not support the use of Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSA) when specifying credentials.

  11. Adjust notification size

As a user (and not a dev) I find it highly annoying that I can't change the size of the notifications that pop up in the bottom right corner of my screen are huge.

Also, the notification bar is ridiculously huge, especially on a 17 inch laptop screen.

Please enable a way for ordinary end users without admin access to control the size of various windows, pop ups and notification bars.

  12. [DCR Case-15787650] Add a Group policy or CSP policy which allows/blocks the Windows driver updates over metered networks

We have several users under this scenario where they were working in a remote location with no wifi access and they connect through 4G, then a driver download for the Mobile broadband device kicks in and as it normally happens with network related device driver updates, once Windows starts the process of upgrading it, it will briefly disconnect the device, leaving the user with no connectivity.

Currently, we only have an option to allow/block the entire Windows Updates on metered networks from Windows perspective
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/mdm/policy-csp-update#update-allowautowindowsupdatedownloadovermeterednetwork

It would be great if we can have a granular setting which lets us decide…

  14. distribute a text editor with Powershell

I just can't believe that Powershell doesn't have a default text editor...
I mean something as simple as vi at least! This is ridiculous...

  15. Provide simple and reliable graphical admin tools

    • Old admin tools using MMC snapins were simple and efficient tools. They were reliable. And users could easily tailor user interface with their favorite tools.

    • The Server Manager that appeared in 2012 is huge and inefficient. It's slow (each time you want to do something, you'll have to wait), and the UI is ******. Things are spread in separate buttons or popup menus all over the screen, which is far less efficient than a tree structure.

    • The new Admin center is even more terrible : it's a tool for server administration, but it can not be used on a server,…

  16. Server 2019 - ALT-F4 - bring back the shutdown/logoff dialog box

Historically, ALT-F4 will close out your windows...and if you were at the desktop, it would nicely bring up a dialog box asking if you'd like to sign-out or shutdown/reboot, etc. That is gone it seems...except for the built-in administrator. This leads to accidental logouts and closing of sessions that may have been active, etc. From what I've seen, MS has stated this is "by design" and needs to go to the forum to restore sanity. Seems odd it exists for one type of account and not able to be enabled for others. Regardless....bring back the logoff/shutdown dialog box please, or…

  17. Add Services.msc to the Right-Click Start Menu (WinKey+x menu)

Add Services to the Windows Server WinX menu (right click of start menu / the menu that appears when you press WinKey+x).

As an administrator, one of the first things I do after connecting to a server is open services.msc. The fastest way to do it has always been click Start, type "services.msc" press enter.

What I would prefer to be able to do is right-click start, choose "Services" but inexplicably, that option that admins use EVERY DAY is simply not in the list when obscure things that we rarely use low Power Options are in the list. Please add…

  19. Add WPF Support to WinPE

While never fully supported, the support WinPE had for WPF was enough to allow folks to build flexible, customized tools. Most of us who have done it are SCCM admins building custom front-ends for the OSD process.

The excellent community has found a workaround to keep WPF going, but it would be nice to have support officially back to at least the level it was.

    Thanks!

  20. Make Windows 10\Office 2016 Searches as good as they were with on Windows 7\Office 2010

In Windows 7, Office 2010 I used to be able to search EVERYTHING that was indexed on my computer, files, emails, .psts, etc. INSTANTLY.

I have since been upgraded to Windows 10 and Office 2016 and the searches are a nightmare and very slow. I can only search emails while in Outlook 2016(no longer from Windows Search) and it is significantly slower than the searches on my old computer. Would like to have the ability to search EVERYTHING in my computer returned from Windows Search(Type Here to Search) since I regularly have to find old emails for customers.
