General Feedback
Do you have an idea or suggestion based on your experience with Windows Server? We would love to hear it! Please take a few minutes to submit your idea in the one of the forums available on the right or vote up an idea submitted by another Windows Server customer. All of the feedback you share in these forums is monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Windows Server. Suggestions can apply to both released and Technical Preview versions of Windows Server.
Important:
1. Remote Desktop Services (RDS)-related feedback must be provided in their UV site: https://remotedesktop.uservoice.com/forums/266795-remote-desktop-services-for-enterprises
2. Requests for feature changes around the end-user experience, such as desktop shell, start menu, individual consumer apps, etc. must be provided through the Windows 10 Feedback Hub tool. We have no ownership of these types of non-Windows Server components.
3. This forum (General Feedback) is used for any broad feedback related to Windows Server. Feedback for specific areas like Storage, Networking, Virtualization, Nano Server, etc., should be provided in one of the forums available on the right. It is not for bug filings. If you find a bug with Windows Server please open a support case at https://support.microsoft.com and report it – these cases are free.

Please finally stop the reorganization of application windows just because a Monitor is switched off to safe energy
Hello
Our users no longer use the power-saving features of the monitors just because Windows then starts to reorganize the application windows and moves them to monitors that are not yet turned off.
Of course, Microsoft is not even able to restore the application windows exactly to their original position when the monitors are switched on again - which is a real shame, because the problem is trivial! therefore the request:
Therefore: please allow your customers to disable this automatic reorganization of application windows if Monitors are switched off.
This should be doable even for M$ which usually ignores usability…1 vote -
hyper-V Manager
In Virtual Machines list a column to show whether the VM is the primary replicating out, or a dormant replica.
I had a panicked user start the replica because he thought the VM was turned off.
That said, can I rename the VM on the replica side only (by adding the word REPLICA for example)?

Add 'server-based personal desktop sessions' for RDS in the Server Manager or any other GUI
Currently, Server-based personal desktop sessions are still underrated. Still it has a lot of potential and a lot of users are looking for a way to implement this, assign users to different Terminal Servers manually istead of letting the load balancer do it for them.
Unfortunately to have this configured we are forced to use PowerShell, which is not handy at all times. To make this more reliable and easy to manage; add Server-based personal desktops to be configurable within the Server Manager under Remote Desktop Services.
IT-staff will then be able to easily assign groups of users to different…

quick access
Pinned locations on Quick Access shows folder name but cannot change display name to differentiate between many folders with the same name in different locations.
Please let us change the display name of a folder in the QuickAccess list as we previously could with the old Favourites list? Or let us put Favourites back on top of the windows explorer navigator?3 votes -

Need to allow access to different domains via different credentials in same AD Administrative Center. runas will only work for one domain at a time per session. I'd like to manage different domains using different credentials per domain.

Option to disable copy on select
It looks like powershell has adopted the horrible design decision of copying the text you select to the clipboard. This has the side effect of clearing your command you copied from another window because when you click in the terminal window to set focus it copies that 1 character the cursor is at. This is very annoying, Please at least provide an option to disable copying text to clipboard on selection.

Add option to re-check for updates before installing
When going to apply updates, there should at least be an option to check for updates if updates are already found. This was previously an option through Server 2012 R2 and is no longer possible. Because of this, changes to available updates may not be received by the client computer until after the update list is applied and the server is rebooted. Given how locked down the update interface is now, even having that option automatically happen in the background would be great.
In my environment, I use WSUS to patch all of my servers. This month, KB4041691 was installed…

The "fsutil fsinfo drivetype" command should distinquish between HDD and SSD for the Fixed Drive response.
When the fsutil fsinfo drivetype command is issued, it should report the difference (and be able to distinguish) between a fixed drive on HDD and SSD.

Server 2019 - Change the default shell
Can we have the option to select a default shell from Command Prompt to Powershell. For a lot of admins I feel like they would benefit from having a choice.

Anchore a window in foreground
Hello,
a great little thing would be an option to anchor a window in the foreground.
For example watching a video or a website in foreground while working in a programm or in explorer.
Usually if you have 2 windows open and you click somewhere in the background window, it comes to the foreground and the other one is concealed.1 vote -

Change the use of hyperlinks in the graphical user interface
In my opinion Microsoft is following a wrong paradigm when it comes to providing server admins with context based background information while working on a server desktop.
It is regarding the use of referrals in the interface to sources on the internet in order to provide the administrator with more information. I know that, when Microsofts recommendation is followed and the core version is chosen, this is no issue at all, but since several server implementations still require the full graphical version (e.g. Exchange Server 2016) and many IT organisations still choose to use RDS for server administration, many admins…1 vote -
Replace the server GUI with a website
I do believe that servers do not need a GUI and probably should not have one for performance and security reasons. With Windows Server 2016, the default installation is Server Core, and I do think this is a very good thing.
However, there are scenarios when a GUI can be handy, particularly for small business with limited IT resources (for example, for the Essentials role). In this scenario, instead of installing a GUI on the server (with calculator, Explorer, Internet Explorer, etc.) the user should be able to access and configure the server from a webpage just like most routers…

Add icons for office apps
Would be nice to have file type handlers built in for Office files so that content is more easily identified on file servers. Adding this as an optional feature, as opposed to installing the Office suite for the same functionality.

Windows Server Start Menu at least like Windows 7 Start Menú and old classic start menu.
Please, no more mobile UI and flat and ugly design like Windows 10.

Different colors in files
Different Colors for various files in a folder to have a better overview of your files and documents.
If you create a folder, in which you want to highlight several files, it would be an enormous help to be able to mark your files in various colors, so you can find them easier and have a better time organizing your documents5 votes -
