General Feedback

Do you have an idea or suggestion based on your experience with Windows Server? We would love to hear it! Please take a few minutes to submit your idea in the one of the forums available on the right or vote up an idea submitted by another Windows Server customer. All of the feedback you share in these forums is monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Windows Server. Suggestions can apply to both released and Technical Preview versions of Windows Server.

Important:

1. Remote Desktop Services (RDS)-related feedback must be provided in their UV site: https://remotedesktop.uservoice.com/forums/266795-remote-desktop-services-for-enterprises

2. Requests for feature changes around the end-user experience, such as desktop shell, start menu, individual consumer apps, etc. must be provided through the Windows 10 Feedback Hub tool. We have no ownership of these types of non-Windows Server components.

3. This forum (General Feedback) is used for any broad feedback related to Windows Server. Feedback for specific areas like Storage, Networking, Virtualization, Nano Server, etc., should be provided in one of the forums available on the right. It is not for bug filings. If you find a bug with Windows Server please open a support case at https://support.microsoft.com and report it – these cases are free.

  2. SeShutdownPrivelege, SeUndockPrivelege, and SeTimeZonePrivelege not added to Administrators Group... only for Built-in Admin

SeShutdownPrivelege, SeUndockPrivelege, and SeTimeZonePrivelege are not added to Administrators Group... only for Built-in Admin. This makes it so setting the timezone via the timedate.cpl in Server Core impossible if logged in as Domain Admin. This also makes ExitWindowsEx function in MSVC unusable on 2019.

Previously, these worked on 2016. A workaround is to add the user (or users group) account via the Security Policy for User Rights Assessment in gpedit.msc.

  3. [Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac] Display freezes after first frame

I am connecting to a VirtualBox VM exposed via VRDP. The first frame loads but then it stops. Mouse and Keyboard events are still sent to the VM (I can see things happen in the preview window), but the screen on MS Remote Desktop never updates.

  5. Fix the white frameless windows

The new UI design of making the windows white and windows without frames is a poor design decision.
If you try to counteract the white-everwhere look, and select the 'dark' theme, then you have a black title bar on the windows, and then you can't see the 'minimize, restore & close' options.

If you've got multiple 'native' server 2019 applications open, its very difficult to differentiate where the edges of the windows are - so much I've had premier support staff get caught out by it when on remote support calls.

If you run 'older' products such as SCCM, and…

  6. Add-WindowsCapability -online does not work if no internet or behind an enterprise firewall

I want to install OpenSSH server using this command:
    Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name OpenSSH.Server~~~~0.0.1.0

It cannot be done without internet access or behind a company firewall, even with full standard internet access.

We should be able to download some kind of package to solve this.

  9. OpenSSH on Windows should include ssh-copy-id

The OpenSSH distribution that comes with Windows as an optional component should contain ssh-copy-id to make copying public keys to remote systems easier than the sequence outlined on https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/openssh/openssh_keymanagement

  11. Finer WSUS categories, especially by architecture and Windows 10 subversion

I end up declining 80% of all WSUS updates, because my products all use x64 architecture, hence I don't need ARM64, Itanium or IA-32 updates. As for Windows 10, I don't need updates for versions 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703 and 1709. There should be an easy way to tell WSUS not get any of these updates during synchronization.

  12. Windows Server 2016 Update Needs to be FIXED

Unacceptable windows server 2016 updates will take 48 hours to complete. My Linux servers will update in 10 minutes of time. This slow update process is akin to taking 48 hours to fill gas tank on your car. FIX IT ALREADY.

  13. Give Enterprise an LTSB/LTSC

LTSB is a beautiful thing. Its what Enterprise should be. No stupid candy crush icons, no cortana, no store. Updates are larger than normal, but you dont have to deal with compatibility issues every 12 months when the OS goes through radical changes.

MS have hamstrung LTSC by removing its ability to run o365...... They have made the greatest current OS build unusable.

I understand the whole "Its for critical systems...." Adapt it to Enterprise. Give w10 the wings to rise out of the candy crush, cortana, 'access any open hotspot' ashes.....

  14. restore old posts from blogs.technet.com

blogs.technet.com had several valuable articles (ie. VMQ deep-dive,etc,etc) that were covering the lack of documentation in the official Product portal (docs.Microsoft.com / technet.microsoft.com) . since hte move to https://techcommunity.microsoft.com several of those articles are lost.

Please restore them or transfer the contents to docs.microsoft.com

  15. [Bug] Windows Admin Center page keeps requesting credentials

The Windows Admin Center page keeps requesting credentials for the Windows Admin Center when adding computers or installing extensions, and it often does so twice in a row.

  16. Windows Server 2016 updates take over an hour, unacceptable!

Updates in Server2012 and even Server2008 are much quicker and you at least get a gauge as to how long.
Not the useless 'Getting windows ready' + rotating dots, aaaarrggghhh!

  19. Make it easier & quicker to deleat old emails.

Need a way to delete a large number of old emails. I have some 4,000+ emails going back to 2003. I've moved several times & most are no longer needed or of use. Yes, I have an older machine & Windows Live Mail. Besides doing it one by one, I find no way to delete - say a page of old emails at the same time.
