Please take a few minutes to submit your idea in the one of the forums available on the right or vote up an idea submitted by another Windows Server customer. All of the feedback you share in these forums is monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Windows Server. Suggestions can apply to both released and Technical Preview versions of Windows Server.

Important:

1. Remote Desktop Services (RDS)-related feedback must be provided in their UV site: https://remotedesktop.uservoice.com/forums/266795-remote-desktop-services-for-enterprises

2. Requests for feature changes around the end-user experience, such as desktop shell, start menu, individual consumer apps, etc. must be provided through the Windows 10 Feedback Hub tool. We have no ownership of these types of non-Windows Server components.

3. This forum (General Feedback) is used for any broad feedback related to Windows Server. Feedback for specific areas like Storage, Networking, Virtualization, Nano Server, etc., should be provided in one of the forums available on the right. It is not for bug filings. 1. Http Action in Task Scheduler

It would be very helpful if, task scheduler support native http actions.

  2. Change Your Thinking

I recently downloaded Server 2016 from my VL portal, got it installed/configured for testing, and I just thought I would share my discontent with the product (or unimpressed is likely a better wording). This does not require any input from anyone, or have any questions that need to be answered.

I dislike that they removed the ability to convert from GUI to Core, or Core to GUI. That was a great feature! Sorry I am not a PowerShell guru, but these feature allowed me to be flexible. Add this back in! I read your reasoning online. Find a way to…

  3. Removing Command Prompt is meanest MSFT idea ever. Roast in ****!

Do not remove Command Prompt, because millions of people will not ever be able to learn the terse, unintuitive, weird, creepy language of Powershell.
This makes computers 80% less useful to a large number of people.
    You are nuts!

  4. Windows server 2016 has the wrong version number when retrieving it by SNMP OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.1.0

Retrieving the server version by SNMP returns the wrong version number for Windows 2016 Server. I'm getting "6.3" instead of the expected "10.0". Using SNMP OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.1.0 to retrieve the version.

    Please fix

  5. Change the use of hyperlinks in the graphical user interface

In my opinion Microsoft is following a wrong paradigm when it comes to providing server admins with context based background information while working on a server desktop.
It is regarding the use of referrals in the interface to sources on the internet in order to provide the administrator with more information. I know that, when Microsofts recommendation is followed and the core version is chosen, this is no issue at all, but since several server implementations still require the full graphical version (e.g. Exchange Server 2016) and many IT organisations still choose to use RDS for server administration, many admins…

  7. Dedupe on ReFS and Hyper-V non-VDI scenarioes...

Please please please add support for Dedupe on ReFS volumes! If you want us to start using the new filesystem then you really should implement Dedupe as well. Also support for Dedupe on other than VDI loads would really be nice. It works very well, so why not??

  11. Do not install windows defender by default on windows server

Windows Server 2016 shoulnd't have anti-malware enabled by default. Just had to reboot a production server 2 days after a clean install because AntiMaware was at 100% CPU for hours. Defender is already a memory hog, it shouldn't be enabled by default on servers.

  12. Bug: Backups stop working after about a month using windows server backup. I lose the System and hyper-v writers.

Only way to recover is a reboot. On a Hyper-v server this is not acceptable.

  13. Disable logon screen background image by default

On Windows Server 2016 Eval (with Desktop Experience), the background image of logon screen is enabled by default.

I feel it would be better to disable by default than to enable.I think such a feature is not needed on the server product and it's better to be simple and to minimize resources for non-service.

  15. Fix change password bug

    Cross-posted from Technet forums:

I think we've identified a bug in Server 2016. Long story short:
    1. Open lusrmgr.msc
    2. Set an active users' properties to require password change at next logon
    3. Reboot (or just logout, haven't tried that)
    4. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to logon, enter user's current password
    5. Press Cancel when informed you need to change your password
    6. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del again, enter user's current password, proceed 7. with password change (notice username is blank at this point)
    8. Password gets changed but you are returned to the change password screen with no way to go back or…

  16. Add hostname to shutdown dialog

Simple idea - add the hostname to the shutdown dialog, ie "Shutdown SERVERNAME". This would stop helpdesk/support personal from cheerfully shutting down critical servers instead of their workstations when going home for the day.

  17. Implement total file security for all computers connectd

I have a conceptual idea of how to secure all the communication, files, and computing resources without the regards where the resources are located. Basically, this would allow to control access to any file on the accessible network or a cloud using the infrastructure/code idea that I have in mind.

I had several conversation with the business owners about the security of the data (files and etc) when it comes to employees parting with the companies or trying to sabotage the resources. Business owners need total control of the data and preclude those leaving the company to copy the data…

  19. Eliminate Invalid redirected printers that may be available in a Remote Desktop Services session that connects to a RD Session Host server

A hotfix was created by Microsoft to prevent further leaked redirected printers from accumulating in the registry. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2620656
Unfortunately, according to the script provided in that KB article the hotfix only deals with the redirected printers that have "session" in the name. The issue is that Microsoft changed this a long time ago to now have "redirected" in the name instead as well as the format of the name being different.
This means that the redirected printers with the new name format are still being leaked in the registry causing the same issue. Note that this is also proven simply…
