Do you have an idea or suggestion based on your experience with Windows Server? We would love to hear it! Please take a few minutes to submit your idea in the one of the forums available on the right or vote up an idea submitted by another Windows Server customer. All of the feedback you share in these forums is monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Windows Server. Suggestions can apply to both released and Technical Preview versions of Windows Server.

Important:

1. Remote Desktop Services (RDS)-related feedback must be provided in their UV site: https://remotedesktop.uservoice.com/forums/266795-remote-desktop-services-for-enterprises

2. Requests for feature changes around the end-user experience, such as desktop shell, start menu, individual consumer apps, etc. must be provided through the Windows 10 Feedback Hub tool. We have no ownership of these types of non-Windows Server components.

3. This forum (General Feedback) is used for any broad feedback related to Windows Server. Feedback for specific areas like Storage, Networking, Virtualization, Nano Server, etc., should be provided in one of the forums available on the right. It is not for bug filings. If you find a bug with Windows Server please open a support case at https://support.microsoft.com and report it – these cases are free.

  1. Multiple Simultaneous Clipboards for Enhanced Copy/Paste Experience

If a user wishes to copy multiple instances of data on different clipboards, lets take the number of clipboards as five, and he wishes to paste data from a certain clipboard, the system should allow the user to right-click and choose the clipboard from which data has to be pasted. This feature will have following benefits:

    1. Save copy/paste operation time
    2. Increase user's efficiency and productivity
    3. Empower user to perform smart copy/paste

  2. Make Internet Explorer 11 to support the new Chromium engine based Edge for modern pages

Lot of enterprises still using IE11 as a default browser, therefore modern solutions cannot be provided without enabling another browser. Because Internet Explorer 11 is still supported, maybe it would be a great idea to provide the possibility to webdevs to able to use modern engine (with meta tag).

  3. Add a version for home server/individual use.

I want to use Windows Server at home. But I will never pay the current amount for a license.

It would be nice to have a heavily-discounted (or free) version for individuals to use at home. I don't know what restrictions could be put in place to keep the license from being used for business, but I'm sure there's a way.

  4. Give stronger controls to enable updates to occur without requiring a user to be logged in.

For my business, it seems like no matter how the IT department sets the network policies, 90% of the patches and updates will only occur AFTER a user is logged in. This seriously degrades the ability of the workers to conduct business. In a large business, even 15 minutes once a week is a substantial cost. Allow network adminstration policies to be established so that upgrades and patches are designed to occur WITHOUT being triggered by a user LOG-IN event.

  5. Windows Server 2016 allows a maximum of 12 active hours. This needs to be increased.

active hours on the update screen can be a maximum of 12 hours. this needs to be extended to 23 hours. Many servers are actively used for more than 12 hours by users from multiple shifts and reboots should not take place while users are accessing files on the server.

  7. Extend Features on Demand for Server Core

Currently FOD for Server Core in Windows Server 2019 does not include a Services Snapin for MMC. Also missing: Task Scheduler, Hyper-V, etc. I know this is beeing worked on for Windows Server 1903.

But those Admins that run the LTSC version of Windows Server won't get these additional consoles.

Please consider a backport to Windows Server 2019 LTSC:

    Thanks

  9. Pooor terminology

"users have to authenticate themselves to the network before they can connect to your PC."

I have a network consisting of multiple computers with Ethernet ports tied through an Ethernet Switch. How can you authenticate yourself to a switch?

  10. Failover Cluster Manager reports wrong role status count on open

Windows Server 2016 Failover Cluster Manager when opening for the first time reports the wrong amount of active roles. I have a 4 node cluster with 170+ VMs and the count is always different and lower the first time I open FCM. when I click refresh it corrects itself.

  11. How the **** do you update the help in powershell?

I tried to run Get-Help on a command in PS and it said I didn't have the help. So I tried running Update-Help and it fails to get the help docs I need. ONLY Microsoft could: 1) Fail to include help 2) **** up the process of getting the help and then do nothing about it

  12. Fix failure to reconstruct _msdcs bug

If the option "Network Connections -> Ethernet ?? -> Properties -> ipv4 -> advanced -> dns -> register this connection's address with dns" is disabled , then a DC will fail to recreate the _msdcs delegated domain. This option would appear to be responsible for the first CNAME entry in _msdcs , if that is missing then _msdcs will not be reconstructed. And might have been responsible for deleteing it in the first place

  13. Support Azure AD domain join for Windows Server 2016

Microsoft should strongly consider implementing support for Azure AD join in future builds of Windows Server 2016. I how a couple of customers that have nearly finished the transition to all cloud and is left with a couple of servers due to legacy software. They are currently left with the option to deploy Azure AD Domain Services for supporting a couple (2-5) servers.

  15. Initiate SCCM Wake-on-LAN from the Secondary Site Servers/DPs.

Request for Wake-on-LAN (WoL) to be initiated from the Secondary Site Servers and DPs. Currently only the Primary Servers are able to initiate WoL but due to certain security concerns and geographical challenges, multicast and unicast broadcasts is either not permitted or limited. These limitations prevents the Primary Server to wake up clients at remote locations. If WoL traffic is initiated on the Site Servers and DPs, the WoL traffic will remain within their respective local networks while maintaining a security posture by blocking external unicast and multicast traffic.

  16. pagefile

    Following this discussion:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/c5f2786c-ffac-4f14-b7a9-00612cdf784e/server-2016-vm-hangs-shutting-downrestarting-when-the-pagefile-is-on-a-different-vhdx?forum=winserverhyperv

The core problem is the following, for example (simple config), for Exchange or SQL servers in a HYPER-V VM under Windows 2016:

systemdrive for windows system (and sql, exchange core),
datadrive for mbx data or sql-databases
    datadrive for log file
    drive for pagefile

We create for all this drive a separat VHDX file and add this to the VM as SCSI drive.

The drive for pagefile (fast SSD, NVMe or other) is exclusiv for the pagefile reserved. No other data on it. The drive for pagefile is the only drive with a pagefile for this vm.…

  17. Conditional format/access of files in a folder or folder within folder

About me: Name: Dr. Umesh R. A., Assistant professor, Dept of Statistics, Aegis School of Data Science. I am from non-technical background. Windows 10 user.
    Hello,
Senario1: Assume I am a researcher. I have collection of tones of research articles with different keywords. there should be something to assign specific keywords/Tag to article1 (Say A, B, C), article2 (Say B, D, E) and article3 (Say A, D, F)… Like pivot table.. I should get article 2 and 3 when I search keyword “D”. Sometimes this process is fine for text document (we can search text)… but very difficult in case…

  18. remove security questions from Server and Enterprise SKUs

The OOBE of Server 2019 1809 includes mandantory security questions for creating an initial local account.

This is apparently a left-over from Home / Pro SKU

Please release a CU to such remove consumer stuff from enterprise and server SKUs for Server 2016 / 2019.

I neither want to guess what's the favorite color of the admin that forgot the password nor where he went to school. Thank you very much!

  20. Hyper-v Replication stops working

Server 2016 replication worked to secondary server. Now, both machines are upgraded to 2019. Replication works for hours and then fails. Requires restart of machine (and killing VM tasks as they won't shutdown gracefully) to get replication working again only to have it fail again.
