  1. Match physical network list in virtual switch manager

In the Hyper-V virtual switch manager, when you go to create a virtual switch, the list of physical network adapters in the machine do not match the names of the physical network adapters in the server control panel network connections list.

This makes finding the matching physical network adapter that is mapped to the virtual switch a trial and error process.

It would be nice if you could either rename the virtual switch physical network adapter names in the dropdown list OR just have the virtual switch manager actually use the name the control panel uses for the physical network…

  2. Single Backup of VM's with Off State

How about adding a new Boolean attribute to VM's to record whether it has been backed up by the VM host's Backup Server since it enter the "Off" state thus eliminating the need to back it up again. The Backup Server would set the attribute state to "Yes" once it has been backed up in the "Off" state. Once the VM enters the "Running" state the attribute would be reset to "No".

  3. Windows Snap does not work with Hyper-V connections

If you try to use Windows Snap the RDP session of a Hyper-V guest will minimize down to 3 icons.
I recently bought a monitor with 21:9 thought I could snap 2 Hyper-V guest connections opened from Hyper-V MMC and use Windows Snap to put them side by side and scale.

Nope! This is pretty bad design.

  4. Virtual Machine Connection: Broken: Toggle Fullscreen by Ctrl-Alt-Break

This annoying bug happens on the Hyper-V Manager 10.0.16299.15

    Good evening

If we double click a VM in the Hyper-V Manager to connect the to the VM Remote Desktop using the Virtual Machine Connection,
then Ctrl-Alt-Break can no longer used to toggle the Fullscreen Mode: The Fullscreen mode is buggy.

It's a shame that M$ does not test basic functions before Customers are forced to use new releases. Maybe you could google for well known best practices to automatically test Software. it's really useful.

    Kind regards,
    Thomas

  5. Hyper-V CimSession Caching Bug

The Server 2016 Hyper-V module caches CimSessions, presumably to make queries for related entities faster. The problem is that it also caches explicitly provided CimSessions that it does not own the lifetime of. So, if you ever use a CimSession with a Hyper-V cmdlet, then close that session, Hyper-V will try to use that disposed CimSession for any future interaction with the host in question. This is wrong, you can't cache objects with a lifetime you don't control without at least handling the case when that lifetime has been ended by the actual owner of the object.

  6. Add support for shared folders between VM and Host like in virtualbox

Access host folders from guest and vice versa withount sharing them on the network, so there is less attack surface.

  7. GPU Partitioning

DDA is awesome and great, but GPU partitioning needs to be on the road map. Live migration of GPU partitioned VMs too. Feature parity with vmWare and XenServer.

  8. Virtual IPMI device for Nested Hypervisors

Now that we have the ability to nest hyper-v, a virtual IPMI device would be pretty nice to teach VMM bare metal deployment.

  9. Add VM template support

Give the ability to convert a VM to a template, or provide a simple way to sysprep / generalize a machine on import - like shown in VMware.

Should be a basic Hyper-V feature.

  10. High Resolution VMConnection for Linux

Support for high resolution VMConnection with Windows is great in the 1709 release. When configured as an Enahnced Session, it's capable of dynamically resizing due to its use of RDP.

Linux won't have RDP built-in which is required at the moment for Enhanced Sessions, but it would be great if the Hyper-V team could come up with a way to support dynamically resizing Linux's most popular Window Systems... X & Wayland.

I'm not sure how to support X & Wayland. A .deb & .rpm package that installs an "agent" or "Integration Component" that enables this would be great until Microsoft…

  11. Add-VMGroupMember does not work

Add-VMGroupMember does not seem to work as described in https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/powershell/windows/hyper-v/add-vmgroupmember

  12. Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V GUI for DDA

I would like to see a GUI set up so that we can find the hardware that we want (PCI Express Devices or USB) and mount them or unmount them via a GUI. This is a lot easier than powershell. Click to mount/unmount hardware from host to VM or vice versa.

More people would use this feature and it would be easier to mount and unmount specific hardware items.

  13. USB 2.0 & 3.0 Passthru for Hyper-V (Windows Server 2016)

Currently, if I want to plug any USB 2.0 or 3.0 device into my Hyper-V host and use it through my VM it will not work.

    Make it so number one...

  14. Auditing of virtual machine connections

I raised that question in https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/eac58596-2ce1-4612-91be-5b4da7ec4aa3/auditing-vm-connections?forum=winserverhyperv, but obviously that features is missing. I´d like to see auditing of virtual machine connections, i.e. which (obviously authenticated and authorized) user connected (or later disconnected) to which virtual machine (name, guid).
    Thanks

  15. Fix virtual TPM in Linux guests

    I run CentOS 7 and RHEL 7 virtual machines on a Hyper-V Server 2016.

Virtual TPMs in the VMs somehow worked, at least as entropy sources, before June 2017 Patch Tuesday. After I've applied the latest cumulative patch every TPM got broken on the next VM restart.

The bug is a regression between 14393.1230 and 14393.1358.
(I've downgraded and everything seems fine now.)

  16. Allow me to set a new minimum memory while VM is running

I normally next-next-next-finish and end up with VMs set to 8GB max RAM and 512MB minimum. Windows seems to absolutely sip RAM however, and never come close to using the available RAM.

So I go to increase the RAM...and I get an error messagethat I cannot change the minimum RAM while the VM is running or paused.

Is there a functional reason for this? It drives me bonkers.

  18. Hyper-V Default Microsoft Hyper-V Video Adapter

Introduce a way to either completely remove the default 'Microsoft Hyper-V Video' adapter, or reassign it as a secondary adapter, when a DDA (SR-IOV) graphics adapter is being passed through to the VM.

We have a Hyper-V Server 2016 with a Windows 10 Pro VM configured with a Direct Device Assignment (DDA) GPU passed through to the VM, which is working and numerous tests have demonstrated that the graphics card is indeed able to operate at native speeds while attached to the VM.

The problem we're having is only OpenGL software calls work - Direct 3D doesn't work, and any…

  19. Establish at least feature parity with the latest VMware vSphere, including web host/cluster management

That includes ease of use, like the (distributed) vSwitch implementation VMware has.

  20. no .indexof in

Microsoft.HyperV.PowerShell.VMSwitch is missing IndexOf method, which makes it tricky to get an index number.

You'll have to pass it to a Customobject, and deserialize the information, if you wanna have any chance of using this.
