  2. Virtual Machine Connection: please remember the last selected connection setting - without forcing us to save and lose the connection dlg

    Good evening

If we use Virtual Machine Connection it's really very annoying that the connection dialog does not remember the last selected Display Resolution.

We know that we can save them - but then, we no longer get the connection dialog, which is even worse because we often change other settings, but not the Display Resolution.

    Therefore:
please remember the last used settings of a Virtual Machine Connection without forcing your customers to use the "Save my settings" checkbox and completely losing the useful connection dialog.

The Microsoft "Usability" is really a pain for professional customers which still use Keyboards…

  3. GPU Partitioning

DDA is awesome and great, but GPU partitioning needs to be on the road map. Live migration of GPU partitioned VMs too. Feature parity with vmWare and XenServer.

  4. migrate between clusters

Currently the live migration of a VM from one cluster to another requires several manual steps: remove the role from the first cluster, switch to hyper-v manager, initiate a shared-nothing migration to one of the nodes of the destination cluster, wait, connect to the destination node, add the VM role in to the destination cluster.
If would be ideal to just be able to select a Migrate to Another Cluster option at the start, make the required choices and then just leave Failover Cluster Managers on the source and destination clusters to sort out the rest. This would also eliminate…

  5. NAT IPv6

It would be nice to allow devices behind the NAT to access ipv6 resources as well externally. Right now this is not possible and as such the default switch for example, sends traffic out only if something is reachable via IPv4.

  6. USB 2.0 & 3.0 Passthru for Hyper-V (Windows Server 2016)

Currently, if I want to plug any USB 2.0 or 3.0 device into my Hyper-V host and use it through my VM it will not work.

    Make it so number one...

  7. Single Backup of VM's with Off State

How about adding a new Boolean attribute to VM's to record whether it has been backed up by the VM host's Backup Server since it enter the "Off" state thus eliminating the need to back it up again. The Backup Server would set the attribute state to "Yes" once it has been backed up in the "Off" state. Once the VM enters the "Running" state the attribute would be reset to "No".

  8. Virtual IPMI device for Nested Hypervisors

Now that we have the ability to nest hyper-v, a virtual IPMI device would be pretty nice to teach VMM bare metal deployment.

  9. Hyper-V CimSession Caching Bug

The Server 2016 Hyper-V module caches CimSessions, presumably to make queries for related entities faster. The problem is that it also caches explicitly provided CimSessions that it does not own the lifetime of. So, if you ever use a CimSession with a Hyper-V cmdlet, then close that session, Hyper-V will try to use that disposed CimSession for any future interaction with the host in question. This is wrong, you can't cache objects with a lifetime you don't control without at least handling the case when that lifetime has been ended by the actual owner of the object.

  10. Add VM template support

Give the ability to convert a VM to a template, or provide a simple way to sysprep / generalize a machine on import - like shown in VMware.

Should be a basic Hyper-V feature.

  12. Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V GUI for DDA

I would like to see a GUI set up so that we can find the hardware that we want (PCI Express Devices or USB) and mount them or unmount them via a GUI. This is a lot easier than powershell. Click to mount/unmount hardware from host to VM or vice versa.

More people would use this feature and it would be easier to mount and unmount specific hardware items.

  13. Hyper-V Default Microsoft Hyper-V Video Adapter

Introduce a way to either completely remove the default 'Microsoft Hyper-V Video' adapter, or reassign it as a secondary adapter, when a DDA (SR-IOV) graphics adapter is being passed through to the VM.

We have a Hyper-V Server 2016 with a Windows 10 Pro VM configured with a Direct Device Assignment (DDA) GPU passed through to the VM, which is working and numerous tests have demonstrated that the graphics card is indeed able to operate at native speeds while attached to the VM.

The problem we're having is only OpenGL software calls work - Direct 3D doesn't work, and any…

  14. High Resolution VMConnection for Linux

Support for high resolution VMConnection with Windows is great in the 1709 release. When configured as an Enahnced Session, it's capable of dynamically resizing due to its use of RDP.

Linux won't have RDP built-in which is required at the moment for Enhanced Sessions, but it would be great if the Hyper-V team could come up with a way to support dynamically resizing Linux's most popular Window Systems... X & Wayland.

I'm not sure how to support X & Wayland. A .deb & .rpm package that installs an "agent" or "Integration Component" that enables this would be great until Microsoft…

  15. Allow me to set a new minimum memory while VM is running

I normally next-next-next-finish and end up with VMs set to 8GB max RAM and 512MB minimum. Windows seems to absolutely sip RAM however, and never come close to using the available RAM.

So I go to increase the RAM...and I get an error messagethat I cannot change the minimum RAM while the VM is running or paused.

Is there a functional reason for this? It drives me bonkers.

  16. Auditing of virtual machine connections

I raised that question in https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/eac58596-2ce1-4612-91be-5b4da7ec4aa3/auditing-vm-connections?forum=winserverhyperv, but obviously that features is missing. I´d like to see auditing of virtual machine connections, i.e. which (obviously authenticated and authorized) user connected (or later disconnected) to which virtual machine (name, guid).
    Thanks

  18. VSS Hyper-V VM bug

There is a bug, uncovered when using Veeam backup software which they describe as -

"Application-aware processing of Active Directory domain controllers running on guest OS other than Windows Server 2016 fails with the “Failed to create VM recovery checkpoint” error (32770). This is a Hyper-V 2016 issue that Microsoft is planning to address in the future update."

Any news on a fix for this would be great.

  19. LACP in Virtual Environment

    Hi,

Please allow LACP configurations for NIC teaming in virtual environments. This is a possible solution. The only allowed option is "Switch Independent", which is limiting to me. I run LACP configurations in my VMware environment for all my 2012R2 servers now, no issues from this design. Allow me to do this again please.

    Thanks,
    Nick

  20. Hyper-V Replica using IP Address instead of NETBIOS/FQDN

Is there any chance to have Hyper-V Replica to work over IP address instead of NETBIOS/FQDN?
Without messing with DNS / hosts file (%windir%\system32\drivers\etc).
Scenario: Sending replica traffic over dedicated network.
Network Constraint (control which networks HR runs upon, based on network interface).
    Thanks!
