Storage Migration Service Support for Samba, NAS, SAN destination
Support for Samba, NAS, SAN DESTINATION! Can't believe this is not one of THE biggest feature requests. We have so many times where we may be, wait for it... migrating AWAY from Windows Servers onto NAS devices. We still use and migrate to Windows Server 2016 and 2019, but we also have need to do the same migrations TO destinations that are NAS devices.

An option to use dotted domains with NPS
The only thing keeping that clunky old 2008 server in my shiny new 2016 environment is I have a dot in my NetBIOS domain name and I use NPS for wireless machine authentication in RADIUS. Before you make fun of me, I inherited this domain and we have looked at all the various domain rename options and they are terrible. It would be great if there was some way to tell a new version of NPS to not use the dot as a separator.

Can Windows Storage Server Migration Cutover feature move a Domain Controller?
The New Windows Storage Server Migration Service has a Cutover feature. It will move the network name and address of the old server to the new server. Can this also move a server that is a Domain Controller?

Get-Volume displays exFAT file system type incorrectly as 'Unknown'
Bug:
When a removable drive is formatted with exFAT, the Get-Volume cmdlet incorrectly displays the FileSystemType property as 'Unknown.' The FileSystem property correctly shows 'exFAT', it is the FileSystemType property (two different properties) which incorrectly says 'Unknown.'
To Reproduce:
Format a USB flash drive with exFAT, then run:
Get-Volume
Get-Volume | Select *
Observed On:
Windows 10 Pro version 1703 with PoSh version 5.1.15063.413.

Give some sort of gui representation of defrag
With the other defrag programs there is a gui to give you an idea of how much defragging was remaining and how much progress is made. It would help you to know if defrag is stuck.

Expand Basic volume to the begin
The expand of a partition on a basic volume (expand to the end of disk, expand to rigth) is a fine thing. But we need in some cases an expand to the begin off the Basic volume (expand to left).
The possible way convert the Basic volume to a dynamic volume and then consolditate/merge first part of volume (from begin of disk to the begin of the second partition) changed the Basic volume permanent to a dynamic volume (not our favorite). It should be possible (and simple?) expand a partition to the left side
Please do it!Example.

Storage Replica and Storage Spaces Direct Were Killed By Licensing
The licensing announced in Dec 2016 ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/products/windows-server-2016/ ) for WS2016 killed Storage Replica and S2D before GA. It makes absolutely no financial sense to deploy these features if Datacenter is required. It would be cheaper (and an easier sell) to go with the incumbent non-commodity hardware solutions that S2D and SR were meant to replace. The math is easy.

disk error ID7 on a storage server, help us find the disk....
At the moment we have to delve in the registry and understand how SCSI enumerates devices. What a mess.
Somehow we need to be able to easily link the harddisk mentioned in the event log with a real disk that needs to be changed. (put the serial number in the event log?)6 votes -
IOP's - u need 2 look @ this in more details
Windows-Feedback:?contextid=67&feedbackid=a770e43b-c1b3-4792-b825-78eada1921f0&form=1&src=2
Microsoft is not taking this iop's this seriously, and most of the time it's pointed out that windows is the problem, but windows was never written for this kind of scenario, yet Microsoft have not step up to address this problem, they just depend on others to find solution to this problem.

Enable high speed backup, e.g. via NDMP, for large Windows fileservers
File-level backup is a big pain-point for large Windows fileserver (5-20TB). Whenever we have a need to provide a fileserver > 10TB, we switch to NetApp - only backup of the backup issue.
It would be a big help if Windows Server would provide a blocklevel / highspeed / NDMP like interface to backup huge amounts in a decent time.

VSS Minimum Hold Time
VSS helps to go back to an earlier version but only within the range of the available spae for a VSS Copy. So if there are many many changes on the storage, we cannot use "previous Version" for a long time. A friend of mine was hit by one of these nasty encryption trojans. So i'l like to configure a Minimum amount of time to not overwrite VSS-Information to recover from that.
I know that this means "more room" for VSS-Data or setting a Disk to "ReadONly" to protect that. So it should be configurable by partition. But this could…2 votes -
Improve the Storage GUI
Right now, the Storage GUI does not have the same functionality as the Storage PowerShell cmdlets.
Especially when doing advanced things with write cache.
Can you please improve the GUI to have the same capabilities as the cmdlets?13 votes -
More Performance Counters
Include more performance counters about storage cache hits and misses, and tier hits and misses.
Currently there is the daily tier report in the event log but not much else.
Combined with the ability to adjust cache sizes.6 votes
