  1. Storage Migration Service: Merge source shares on one target volume

If the shares do not have the same name, why not allow merging shares on several volumes in source servers into one volume in the destination.

  2. Get-SRGroup function not working remotely from 2016 to inspect 2019

Running the Get-SRGroup command from a 2016 server returns null results when to remotely get the ReplicationStatus from a 2019 server which hosts the SRgroup/SRpartnetship on it. Other commands such as Get-SRPartnership command from the same StorageReplica module do work from 2016 -> 2019 to get other details.

Seems like a bug that the function Get-SRGroup results are always empty. This was reproduced a few times in different deployments.

  3. Feature Request --- Option to avoid Adding a Disk Automatically to Storage Pool.

Wanted to advise on this Auto pull of a New Disk in to Storage Pool and options to Get a Disk out of the Pool & back to the local system.

                So far, I’ve checked in MSDN (How-to-remove-disks-from-primordial-pool) but it seems like currently there’s no option to do such;

    My request is for a solution that enables to;

    1. Skip disks out of the Pool Collection when enabling S2D.

    2. Add new disks to the system with a choice of whether or not to put them in S2D or Pool.

    3. Pull an existing disk(s) out of a Primordial Pool.

    So far the…

  4. Enable support to remove work folder content from powershell

There are no Life cycle management for work folders, would be nice if there were a powershell cmdlet that would remove both metadata and documents for certain users.

  5. 100% fragmentation on 99% empty drive

In my SQL server I got 6 drives:
    c: local drive
    D: Data
    L: Log
    S: system databases
    T:Temp database
    B: backups
and recently I started to get a warning from scom about 100% logical fragmentation on disk L and disk T but they are both 10 GB space but only 100MB in use...

  6. Allow admins to adjust the priority/resources used to finish background storage spaces jobs

It is super frustrating how much 'potential' performance storage spaces background jobs leave un-utilized. It would be great to be able to set a cluster-wide setting that would adjust how much of the system resources would be dedicated to these background jobs. As it is today one of the major limiting factors in rolling out updates across a large cluster is waiting for the repair jobs to finish after a reboot.

  7. Add shared VHD support to client OS

It is just one filter driver needed in the stack that will enable shared VHD (svhdxflt.sys). This feature would really help IT Pros to play with scenarios, where shared VHD is needed (Storage Replica scenarios, SAN simulations etc.)

  9. Storage Spaces Direct Stretch Cluster support

It would be extremely advantageous for S2D to support Stretch Clusters. Maybe implement it by allowing the creation of multiple, site aware storage pools (by leveraging the new failure domain features).

Combining this with Storage replica would enable multi-site, highly available VM's without the need for any shared storage what so ever.

  10. Official support for ReFS on SAN volumes (iSCSI and FC)

Official support for running ReFS on iSCSI san volumes on enterprise san.
There are so many reasons for running ReFS over NTFS, it's a shame it's not officially supported on SAN storage volumes.

  11. Support ReFS Volumes with FSRM

I'd like to see FSRM support ReFS Volumes, mainly for the classification and reporting functions.

  13. Don't work Remove-PhysicalDisk in Windows Server 2016 for Storage Spaces

Remove-PhysicalDisk doesn't work as needed in Windows Server 2016 (like in 2012 R2).

We have Scale-Out File Server on Windows Server 2016. One storage pool with tiering and two way mirroring Virtual Disk. We have free space in pool specially for rebuild (size for more then 4 disk failure). We put one disk as Retire and took out from enclosure. Disk was Lost communication and Virtual Disk auto rebuild.
VirtualDisk shows as Healthy and OK and Repair runs without issues.
We add new HDD to enclosure and add it to pool. All looks good, healthy and OK.
    But Remove-PhysicalDisk for…

  14. Have a file extension whitelist for deduplication

I'd like to specify only certain file types to be deduplicated, as our users tend to copy around big movie files, but I still want Windows search to work for regular files (which are also small enough to not bother with deduplicating).

See also the folder whitelist https://windowsserver.uservoice.com/forums/295056-storage/suggestions/7961025-de-duplication-feature-should-be-enabled-on-direct and https://windowsserver.uservoice.com/forums/295056-storage/suggestions/17888647-make-windows-search-service-work-with-data-dedupli

  15. new-smbmapping: finally fix the bug so that Windows Explorer recognizes the new drives without kill & restart

    Good evening

Since years(!), it's well known that if we map SMB Shares using the New-SmbMapping command,
then the Windows Explorer does not recognize the new Drives: we have to kill and restart explorer.exe.
Well, we can be happy that we do not have to reboot...

We can not believe that this bug was never fixed and that we have to raise our user voice to solicitation so that such annoying bugs get finally fixed.

Of course, we could use the New-PSDrive command.
Unfortunately, this command is even worse: it does not validate if the credentials are valid nor if…

  16. Storage Replica and Storage Spaces Direct Were Killed By Licensing

The licensing announced in Dec 2016 ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/products/windows-server-2016/ ) for WS2016 killed Storage Replica and S2D before GA. It makes absolutely no financial sense to deploy these features if Datacenter is required. It would be cheaper (and an easier sell) to go with the incumbent non-commodity hardware solutions that S2D and SR were meant to replace. The math is easy.

  17. Storage Spaces allow option for volatile cache (aka consumer SSDs)

Currently SS requires an SSD with PLP (power-loss-protection) as per this article: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/filecab/2016/11/18/dont-do-it-consumer-ssd/

Please give us an option when creating an SSD caching tier for SS to use the SSD cache (meaning NOT write-through/disable the cache).
So that cheap consumer SSDs (without PLP) can be actually used, while keeping the SSD performance.

  18. Workfolders edit file directly from app (iOS)

The current workfolders app 2.0.1 allow us to copy files to and from Workfolders but it's far from all major apps for file storage that allow edit directly from the app.
It will greatly benefit the users if this option is added.

  19. Transfer rate on Windows native backup

Windows Backup would be better if I could actually see the transfer rate so it is easier to calculate if the backup is running faster or slower as you tweak things.

  20. Add deduplication support to client OS

Today there is an enthusiast community* that runs deduplication bits on client for various applications, e.g., keeping multiple virtual disk images on an SSD. Enabling it on a larger scale would allow both clients and enterprises to save costs by having to buy smaller SSDs and by being able to store more aggregated data. While the overall usage may remain small, there would be a dedicated following of fans and users that would find this feature highly useful.

*(These enthusiasts typically capture the dedup package from a Windows Server installation and then use the dism tool to add them to…
