1. Give more control for NIC teaming

In Active/Passive NIC teaming configuration, there could be more control for failback, that when active NIC fails and failover happens, the team did not failback to previously (default) active NIC for specified amount of time.

2. Support for Layer 2 sharing between physical and NVGRE networks

Not supporting Layer 2 network between physical and NVGRE networks is one of the blockers for Network Virtualization adoption.

4. Introduce a "debug" mode to the TCP/IP stack

As this would be reasonably impactful of performance on busy servers, it would have to be designed for debug situations only. The idea is that we have a log specifically for TCP/IP debugging. In it would be written things like TCP session establishment, connection resets, adapter events, tcp window size change events, offload status, rss events, route changes, and a big one, MTU negotiation/black hole router events.

6. RE-code the DFACS utility

RE-code the released DHCP Failover Auto Config Sync (DFACS) utility. We were considering an implementation of it but scrapped the idea hearing of all the alleged scary issues in the comments e.g. memory consumption, deletion of scopes, issues with reservations, etc. The result of implementing the tool should mitigate config drift, not end up causing other larger issues!

Please do update me if a new build fixing the reported issues.

7. Cannot create IKEv2 tunnel mode IPsec rules in PowerShell, but IKEv1 works just fine

Bug:

When creating an IPsec rule which uses the IKEv2 keying module in PowerShell, an error is thrown, but it is not likely a PowerShell error, but an underlying bug in Windows.

Expected Behavior:

We should be able to manage IKEv2 IPsec rules however we wish, including creating tunnel mode IKEv2 rules without using RRAS.

Steps To Reproduce:

In PowerShell, the following code should work (notice the KeyModule):

-------start---------
$P1MachineCertOnly = New-NetIPsecPhase1AuthSet -Default <rest of command not shown>

$IPsec3Tunnel = @{

IPsecRuleName = 'IPsec3'

DisplayName = 'IPsec3'
KeyModule = 'IKEv2'
Mode = 'Tunnel'
LocalAddress = '192.168.1.0/24'
LocalTunnelEndpoint = '192.168.1.204'

8. DnsServerResourceRecord does not support multi-string records

RFC-4408 (section 3.1.3) https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4408#section-3.1.3 defines the use of multi-string records for SPF (DNS TXT records), however the Get- or Add- DNSServerResourceRecord commands do not support this. For the Get- the actual DNS record is truncated to 256 chars, and for the Add- it simply errors out with an invalid propery.

Example of a valid DNS record (that can be configured by the DNS GUI)
$RecordName = "spfrecord"
$RecordText = "v=spf1 ip4:192.168.0.1 ip4:192.168.0.2 ip4:192.168.0.3 ip4:192.168.0.4 ip4:192.168.0.5 ip4:192.168.0.6 ip4:192.168.0.7 ip4:192.168.0.8 ip4:192.168.0.9 ip4:192.168.0.10 ip4:192.168.0.11 ip4:192.168.0.12 ip4:192.168.0.13 ip4:192.168.0.14 include:spf.protection.outlook.com mx -all"
$Zone = "contoso.com"
$Type = "TXT"
$DNSServer = "DC1.contoso.com"
Add-DnsServerResourceRecord -DescriptiveText $RecordText -Name…

10. DHCP Failover ist not possible between different Languages.

Dear Microsoft,

it's not possible to Setup a DHCP Failover between two Server (w2k12 R2) with different languages in my case English and german.

The Error Code 20044 comes up because of the differenet naming of the user and/or vendor classes.

I think this should be fixed.

Kind regards,
Benedikt Ochs

12. Provide useful parameters for Enable-NetLldpAgent

Enable-NetLldpAgent not useful

The Enable-NetLldpAgent , in order to be useful in proper management of a network, should allow setting TLV subtypes.
Or...........Some options I would prefer:
set TLV 1 to ID subtype 5 (network address) instead of subtype 4 (MAC address)
set TLV 2 to ID subtype 5 (interface name) instead of 3 (MAC address)

include the optional TLV 5 system name

MAC address is easily obtained by other networking tools. Using this as the information for mandatory TLVs is redundant and useless.

And include lldp driver and PS modules in every version of Windows. You can't build a…

13. Fix Remote-NetIPAddress to work inside try/catch

Writing a script to provision a machine - we first remove the IPAddress (and any default gateway), But sometimes there is no address. That;s fine - we just try/catch and move on, liike this:

Try {

Remove-NetIPAddress -InterfaceIndex $IfIndex `

-AddressFamily IPv4 `
-Confirm $false
}

Catch {Write-Verbose 'No IPAddresses found'}

But instead of the nice write-verbose message, we get a fatal error:
Remove-NetIPAddress : No matching MSFTNetIPAddress objects found by CIM query for instances of the ROOT/StandardCimv2/MSFTNetIPAddress class on the CIM server:
SELECT * FROM MSFT_NetIPAddress WHERE ((IPAddress LIKE 'False')) AND ((InterfaceIndex = 3)) AND ((AddressFamily =…

14. Move the GlobalBlocklist to the ADS

Everytime you set up a new DC with DNS (integrated DNS Zones) you have to remember to clear the GlobalBlocklist in the Registry (when using wpad and isatap). If you set up new DC everytime a new OS is live, you have to remember for this every ~ 3 years. Please move the GlobalBlocklist to a Paramter in the integrated zones, so that every DNS Server with this zone get a real "Global" Blocklist. Or, at least, make the Blocklist visible in the mmc. Would make the search for the misconfiguration a lot faster.

15. Server 2016 wifi does not work

In Windows Server 2016 RTM, like in the TP5, still Wifi does not work!
I can enable the service, device is known in device manager and it also finds Wifi networks, but when i connect, after entering password, Explorer.exe crashes!

16. Remove-DhcpServerv4Reservation [IP Address] removes all reservations in the scope, even if the IP is not a scope IP

When using Remove-DhcpServerv4Reservation and just giving it an IP address without using the option -IPAddress, the cmdlet removes all reservations and turns them into leases.

This should not happen if the IP address is not a scope IP identifier and should throw an error rather than removing all reservations.

18. Provide logging around DNS record aging

It would be nice to have DNS logging around what records would be scavenged if scavenging was turned on.

Add a log (or easy PowerShell way) to pull the records that would be scavenged, following the built-in algorithm that DNS uses (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc959277.aspx)

19. Send network configuration scripts on the hyperV hosts before running it

When doing modifications on virtual network equipment in SCVMM, we often lose connectivity because a switch that allowed connection is deleted before another one is created. The problem is that scripts regarding network configuration are executed remotely, wich means that we’ll lose connectivity at some point and won't be able to complete the script. We believe it would be safer to send the script entirely to the hosts before executing it, so they could complete it without any remote help and reconnect when it has been executed.

20. DirectAccess over Native IPv6 Internet

I read somewhere that DirectAccess ALWAYS uses transition technologies (Teredo,6 to 4, IPHTTPS) for client to DA connection, EVEN WHEN both DA server and DA client have native IPv6 public addresses.

in case it is true, I believe we should let the native IPv6 be the 1st priority of the connection security rules rather than the Tunneled ones.
