  3. Screen application

It would be great to have screen module installed. In linux this allows you to create a session that you can attach and de-attach to when you remote into the server.

This feature would be amazing as if you're installing software or you have commands you have ran in a power shell and you want to continue where you left off if you get disconnected due to a internet failure on your end you can continue running the application.

  4. Hyper-V Contianer

I'm very interested in NanoServer running Hyper-V Containers inside a Hyper-V Host; however the demo that I've seen on Channel 9 don't have much details on how to get this setup to work. Any help would be great.

  6. Nano Visual Studio

Make Nano Server a useful platform for compiling, linking, and packaging C++ in a Continuous Development environment. We produce many builds of our products every day using build agents running desktop or server versions of Windows, and our infrastructure could be much more efficient if our build agents didn't require a GUI or other features that are only of use in desktop and server environments. Nano Server seems like the perfect platform for running automated builds in some GUI-less version of Visual Studio, ideally distributing a build over multiple agents to compile in parallel.

  8. Make it optional to have SysWOW64

Some of our applications are only available in 32 bit for compatibility across all platforms, and we want 32 bit support without creating a VM, only taking up more space.

  9. MS-DOS compatibility and applications more like DOS ones

NanoServer is like DOS, with its keyboard only. MS-DOS applications only need a keyboard, and are so light(kilobyte light) like EDIT.COM and Qbasic.(Long live Windows XP) As mentioned in the Nano Visual Studio, Microsoft could revive the DOS API and make a new Visual Studio like QBasic and Quick C. It should also include NTVDM optionally.

  10. Add a DNS client parameter to New-NanoServerImage cmdlet

When create a new Nano Server Image using cmdlet New-NanoServerImage we can use Ipv4Address, Ipv4SubnetMask and Ipv4Gateway. Why not Ipv4Dns ?

  11. allow Nano server to act as a network virtual appliance

it would be really cool if we can have a built-in type of networking features like LB, Switch/router, Firewall/IPS/IDS ... in Nano server with management console in windows server RSAT as well as Nno server console

  12. Support for Isolated User Mode

Nano Server is already my most favorite Hypervisor, why not give it the same security features as the upcoming Windows Server 2016?

  13. Nano recovery console UI suggestions

I like the fact that various firewall rules are displayed on the nano console and that one can select them to enable/disable them. Some of them default to enabled; some of them default to disabled. It would save some keystrokes if the status (enabled/disabled) were shown for each instead of requiring to first select it and open it.
Additionally, the bolding of the text to highlight the selected item is not very visible. It would be easier to see what is currently selected if the text were to change color. When it is a whole line of text, it is…

  14. Install the HttpPlatformHandler by default with an IIS role install

ASP.NET 5 apps reverse proxy via the HttpPlatformHandler, so the module is going to be required for most vanilla .NET 5 web apps going forward. It would be nice if the HttpPlatformHandler module was installed by default with an IIS install. It would further be helpful if the module were kept up-to-date by whatever OS updating system Nano Server uses.

  15. More sophisticated Nano UI

Enable/Disable Firewall - because sometimes things get messy
Edit Firewall rules - e.g. no remote mgmt allowed from other subnets, cannot change scope

Reset NIC - Ran into problems where NIC IP and gateway couldn't be changed and DHCP couldn't be enabled

Or just port sconfig from Core to Nano

  16. Highlight "Azure" for "Using Windows PowerShell remoting" section of Getting Started doc

Side Note: Spinning up a Nano Server TP4 in Azure is showing an active "Connect" button for the VM in the Azure Portal UI, which would ordinarily download a useful RDP file. Since the server doesn't support RDP, this is useless and misleading. That button should be disabled for Nano Server Azure VM's.

    RE: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt126167.aspx

    Section: "Using Windows PowerShell remoting"

I recommend that you highlight that these are the steps that should be followed for someone trying to access an Azure Nano Server VM with local PowerShell only. It wasn't clear from the doc (and other docs online) that this…

  17. Make a list of ReverseForwarders compatibility tools

NGinx, Node(ok, is running), Varnish, ElasticSearch, Erlang, RabbitMQ, Redis...
Which of these services and other common tools/services can be run on Nano Server?

We need a simple compatibility list.

  19. "Core" services

Nano server would be fantastic for the remote site concept: core services like AD, DNS, DHCP, file / print, proxy. By having more of a "black-box" approach, this can be built and left onsite with little risk to the box.
