  1. New VM in Cluster creating unnecessary "Hyper-V" in folder path

When creating a new VM from the Failover Cluster it adds a "hyper-v" folder to the end of the path which is unnessasary.

The Path is set to "C:\ClusterStorage\VMStorage\BuildServers"

    so it becomes "C:\ClusterStorage\VMStorage\BuildServers\Hyper-V\Server1".

but it would be better if it was

    "C:\ClusterStorage\VMStorage\BuildServers\Server1".

  2. cannot ping node server‘s virtual ip

Based on the different subnets, I could ping node local ip, but couldn't ping node server's virtual ip. From my switch, I found the arp cache table, it shows the local ip and mac address, the virtual ip and mac address couldn't write in arp cache table except I manually trigger it on my node server, but the network adapter shows these ip addresses and mac address normally.

  3. Create a Hyper-V Cluster without AD

It's very important create hyper-v cluster without AD dependencies. For example you could use certificates to validate each node (like Hyper-V Replica between two hosts in workgroup)

  4. Cluster Aware Updates ignore Daylight Savings Time

On Server 2012 R2 CAU scheduling "moved" one hour when Europe switched to Daylight Savings time (or rather CAU scheduling ignored DST). This impacted planned maintenance windows and had to be manually adjusted.

Possible useful fix: Default all scheduling to UTC.

  5. Storage Spaces Direct should be configurable from Failover Cluster Manager UI

PowerShell and SCVMM management are not sufficient for management - this feature should be 100% configurable from Failover Cluster Manager UI (cluadmin.exe)

  6. Make CAU not just Cluster Aware but "Any Microsoft Product" aware

CAU is just cluster-aware. When used on a Hyper-V Cluster, it's not aware of Hyper-V Replicas, which will fail on Node-reboot. When used on an Exchange DAG, it's not DAG-aware, causing to reboot the Node bringing an online Database simply offline!. I was totally depressed and disappointed to find that out! CAU should be aware of at least any Microsoft Product running on top of it. Similarly, it could be extended to support RDS-Farms/RDS-Gateway-Farms/RDS-Broker-Farms, etc. If not out of the box, perhaps with a plugin-module-model, which gets installed when CAU gets deployed, evaluating what's running on the Node it gets…

  7. "Move Virtual Machine Storage" in Failover Cluster Manager UI needs enhancements for SMB3 / SoFS / Storage Space Direct

The "Move Virtual Machine Storage" capability in the Failover Cluster Manager UI is really useful, but it needs a few simple things to make it easier to manage storage and also to transfer between storage topologies:
    1. Ability to create FOLDERS - not just shares
    2. Ability to REFRESH the view so that the dialog does not need to be closed
    3. Ability to view permissions of SMB3 shares

  8. Cluster Validation should keep CSV disks online

Cluster Validation should keep CSV disks online somehow - there should be a way for me to run every validation test - including storage - without bringing my Hyper-V workload offline. I like the Scale Out File Server but I want validation to work seamlessly when I am only using local CSV.

  9. Hyper-V Storage clustering

It would be great if there would be a option to automate the load balancing of the storage: space load balancing among datastore within a datastore cluster, I/O load balancing and also initial placement for the virtual disks, some thing that Storage DRS does in VMware.

  10. Better GUI for Creating Cloud Witness

Currently the Cloud witness needs storag account name and key.
But Why not taking the GUI options from SQL and make this selectable connect to the azure subscription and from there create or select the storage account.

Or make an advanced option that does the simple key input and the other by a GUI as SQL uses to create Azure VM's

  11. [WSFC - CNO] ::: Provision to change the ManagementPointNetworkType of an existing Cluster i.e. between Singleton or Distributed

It’s about making an enhancement on the new feature ManagementPointNetworkType introduced in RS3 which will improve Cluster Connectivity from the behavior what we see today.

History: Until RS3, this wasn’t configurable & the cluster’s CNO will be what’s created using MPNT as Singleton. RS3 onwards this can be set as Distributed.
    You’ll ask: What's the difference?
A CNO of type Singleton needs an IP address while the Distributed ones don’t. This is a boon for the AZURE based WSFC deployments, which are currently using 169.254.x.y and are useless for any remote connections or anything but taking space in AD otherwise…

  12. Manage failover cluster VM replication using Powershell.

Currently even if VMs are created and managed in Failover Cluster Manager, and the GUI supports managing VM replication, there is no corresponding Powershell commands to manage at the Cluster level. Therefore you need to call each host server to initiate a replica failover.

It would be great to be able to use Powershell to manage VM replication for all VMs in the cluster with one script. This would be especially useful for cluster to cluster VM replication where the VMs can move around from host to host.

  13. Option to disable CAU role failback

When CAU resume a cluster node after maintenance, it always moves roles back to that node. On a Hyper-V cluster, this requires live migrating VMs back. In some cases, on a heavily loaded cluster, this interferes with the ability to live migrate VMs off of the next node being put into maintenance.

Having an option in CAU to disable role failback would prevent this.

  14. Publish documentation regarding SOFS share rebalancing behavior and SMB witness protocol involvement in SOFS operations

Right now this https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/josebda/2013/10/30/automatic-smb-scale-out-rebalancing-in-windows-server-2012-r2/ is the only documentation explaining something about SOFS share rebalancing behavior, but it doesn't explain how it works. How SOFS exactly detecting share types and how SMB witness protocol is involved in it.
I had a case with CSS opened about problem with SOFS ( https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/787bd5b7-31d6-4450-b9b5-dfefb6c79a1a/hyperv-over-smb3-problem?forum=winserverfiles ), but they cannot get any documentation either.

We are stopping using SOFS and reverting back to File Server in failover cluster and not recommending anyone to use SOFS because CSS cannot help with problems with it nor does they have documentation to do their work.

  15. Manage unclustered Servers at once

When several unclustered Servers have been added to the WebAdmin, it would be practical to be able to manage several Containers at once (e.g. install Updates and restart 100 Containers with one Command; distribute files across Servers; change Firewall Settings globally)

  16. Failover Cluster Manager should should storage Migration progress

Storage Migration shows progress percentage in the Hyper-V Manager, but not in FCM, Showing a progress in FCM makes sense.

  18. Automatic consistent naming of CSV object and ClusterStorage path

When you rename a CSV object for descriptive purposes, it should plumb that name all the way down automatically to the file system at c:\ClusterStorage\Volume1 and change the corresponding volume name to match the name of the CSV. This is important because you could have many CSV with different I/O patterns in S2D cluster. And knowing which folder to create the VHDX file in for I/O purposes is important because we have to specify a path in the new-vhd command.

  19. Allow for Powershell Generic Script Resources on WSFC

Please build Powershell support for WSFC generic script resources. VBS is no longer a viable, nor easy way to program these. Shouldn't be too hard :)

  20. Node fairness requires customizable time interval

Currently, the interval for “AutoBalancing” with "Node Fairness" is non-configurable and will happen every 30 minutes.

I would like to see a way to customize the time interval and also provide a way to (manualy) invoke the balancing mechanism.
