  1. MPIO registry values suggestion through server event logs.

Get MPIO registry setting suggestion through server event logs.

    Reference: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/san/2011/12/02/updated-guidance-on-microsoft-mpio-settings/

For a production cluster,(Where it is desired that a disk resource should not fail-over during a brief fail and recover of link.),in the event of link failure and outage, if the Server Administrator gets the information about MPIO registry values to be set through an Event Log, that will help reduce the service outage time. If the suggestions in the reference link can briefly be added in the event log that would be very helpful.

For further development nearly exact values of MPIO registry settings can be suggested in…

  3. Native Syslog Agent

Build a native syslog agent into the OS so that I do not have to use free 3rd party or pay for 3rd party agents to forward windows events to other systems which seem to understand syslog more readily than native windows event logging

  4. Make any text in any error popup select- and copyable

When windows throws one of those pesky popups with an error message error text should be selectable and one should be able to copy any text that windows outputs to the user.

  5. Centralized database of "Events that can safely be ignored" and filtering options for those

Over the last few years i'm experiencing more and more error or warning type events in the logs that do not point at actual problems but according to support "can safely be ignored". Not needing to spend time searching the internet or calling techsupport would save time & money.
If Microsoft knows of those why should the Windows event system not?

  6. Tool to work out deltas between servers

I would like a tool that can examine 2 instances of a Windows Server instance and tell me what differences there are between them.

This would help tremendously in troubleshooting, finding exceptions to your SOE, etc.

So the tool would have some checkboxs of what you want compared: file system, registry, etc

Taking it further, it would be great if you could have a SOE defined, and then have a analysis/report what is different from the defined baseline.

Use cases: Trying to work out a problem where something works in UAT but not in PROD, something works when running on…

  7. (Microsoft Survey & Email) Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Helpdesk Incidents

Hi, we are in the Microsoft Windows Server product team in Redmond. We are studying customer pain points with respect to Diagnostics and Troubleshooting across both Linux and Windows Server environments and across operating systems and applications.

If diagnosing helpdesk incidents is a primary responsibility for you and you have ~500 or more servers under your management, and would like to share your thoughts and feedback, please take a few minutes to fill out the following survey:

    https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W7CKJ2P

If you want to give us direct and deep feedback, please email us at:

  8. Add user domain as a column to Task Manager

Right now it is impossible to distinguish users from different AD domains but with the same username in the user interface of the Task Manager. Please either add user UPN/domain NetBIOS suffix into the 'user name' column or add this as a separate column.

  9. TS_CheckPermissions.PS1 bug report. (Solution included)

    TS_CheckPermissions.PS1, line 16:
    [bool]$ownerOK = ($acl.Owner -eq "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM")

Fails for every locale outside of 1033 (the system account has another name). That line needs to be replaced by:

    [bool]$ownerOK = ($acl.Owner -eq (New-Object System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier ("S-1-5-18")).Translate([System.Security.Principal.NTAccount]).Value)

This bug was first reported in 2010, it has never been fixed. This page documents the problem very well:

  10. Improve the event forwarding interface

When adding servers to the list, after a few dozens it gets laggy.

also the list of logs only shows local logs doesn't query the remote servers for their "specially" added logs of third party products.

  11. A cloud service that tells me what the problem is and its remediation

A cloud service that tells the admin of on-premise servers and/or IaaS VMs what’s wrong and how to remediate the problem. It would do this by finding patterns in the machine's diagnostic data (Event Logs, ETL logs, txt logs, etc.). This is not a monitoring scenario, but rather a deep analysis scenario.

  12. Crash dumps centralization

Have a facility in Windows to copy/move crash dumps to a file share once the machine reboots. Perhaps using BITS and a configurable GPO. I'm currently doing this through custom scripts that gathers the dumps and then runs cdb to analyze the dumps to get trending information. Ex: faulty driver

  13. HBA level statistics

It would be good to have a standard API to get HBA level information (environmental and performance).

We had issues in the past where SAS HBAs were hitting thermal protection levels in Storage Spaces causing HBA resets. We had to hack something with vendors tools to get monitoring on this. Also knowing per link usage would be good as well.

  14. Biggest pain points for finding root cause

When something breaks or goes wrong, what are your biggest pain points for finding a resolution/root cause? I'm thinking about process, people, or technology.
