  1. DSC configuration fails if WinRM service restarts while the enact is in process

    Handle: Ravikanth.Chaganti

    Feedback ID: 1006559

    Frequency: Always Happens
Regression: Yes, this happens in all previous versions

    Problem Description:
When DSC configuration enact process is in progress (either push or pull), any interruption in WinRM service disconnects the CIM session and leads to failure of configuration. The inability to recover from wsman disconnection is an issue within a data center. There are many reasons why such a disconnection may happen and this needs to be fixed.

  2. BUG : WMF5 RTM Pull Server HTTPS

I have setup new DSC Pull Server HTTPS with WMF 5 RTM on Windows server 2012 r2 .

Any client with WMF 5 RTM installed is able to pull configuration from Pull Server without certificate installed on the machine .

Even if AllowUnsecureConnection is set to $false in LCM .

I have tested that on WMF 4.0 machines and I'm getting error if the certificate is not presented .

    investigating  ·  Mark Gray responded

    Mariusz,

    Thanks for the feedback!

We are attempting to investigate this issue but need more details from you in order to make progress.

Is the issue that you are running into as follows:
    - WMF 5. based DSC Pull Server configured with HTTPS and server certificate installed properly. I assume this is not a certificate issued by a trusted authority, correct?
    - A WMF 5.0 RTM client does not have the trusted SSL certificate installed in the trusted root folder and the client is able to successfully connect to the Pull Server.
    - A WMF 4.0 client fails to connect when it does not have the trusted root cert installed.

Please let us know if this is or is not what you are experiencing.

    Thanks, again,

    MarkG

  6. Enable authoring of DSC resources using c# in a similar way as with ps classes

    Problem Description:
We're now able to write DSC resources using classes in powershell and that is really great!

Please also enable writing resources in c# in a similar way using a single class and attributes to mark properties and methods as their DSC equivalent. that would reduce alot of the friction for developers coming in to DSC from c#

    Problem Description:
i've investigated DSC but found it to be almost unusable on any kind of scale since it seems every variable is stored in some global scope, not even quantified with step names.

This makes it impossible to so something as simple as stopping and starting a service to update it, surely a common scenario. (Because the "Name" has to be unique)

  10. Support text-oriented configuration management

... in a folder at C:\config containing text files (and perhaps a similar folder in the user's home directory). Changing those text files would directly apply changes to Windows settings. Services could read those files directly or use a Windows text-based configuration management API.

Text-oriented configuration has many advantages: it makes devops-style workflows much more simple, entire server configurations could be versioned in git or svn along with the apps they host, spinning up new servers would be much simpler, and tools like Chef and Puppet would integrate far more smoothly and simply with Windows.

    I suggest this as a…
