Fix Windows Updates on Server 2016
Please fix Windows Updates on Server 2016 to allow more control in search and installing updates, similar to previous Windows Server versions. The inability to control which updates can be applied is outrageous! The ability for updates to install without any control is mind boggeling. FIX THIS AT ONCE!!!

I agree with the poster, updates are currently broken.
Example: Exchange server running and I want to update the Defender update but ... Three are three updates that will cause a reboot of the server.
In previous versions of Windows, I could check the box on that update and install it no muss no fuss. Now it installs all of them reboots the server and gets me in trouble with management because email went away.
Thanks Microsoft how 'bout we rethink this one?

The settings app should NOT automatically download and install updates - especially when the local policy has automatic updates DISABLED and SCONFIG has updates marked as MANUAL
I cannot believe how ridiculous Windows Updates are now with Server 2016. Someone dropped the ball here. It is one of the most used items that administrators use and now it is worthless. It was not really ever any good in the first place and they somehow made it even worse.
I keep thinking I'm missing some setting that lets me control which updates to install, but apparently it's an all-or-nothing in Windows 2016 / Windows 10.
For this reason alone, we're still using Windows 7 on the desktop. Fortunately, most of our server apps run on Linux. For the few that require Windows, the new update process is a showstopper.
I can pick updates on older Windows, on Linux, on MacOS, on Android... pretty much everything but Windows. I shouldn't have to run WSUS to manage this, when a simple checkbox served the same purpose for years.
