    I agree that current implementation isn't pretty

    Example:

    . .\mynestedconfig.ps1

    configuration parentconfig {
    mynestedconfig -param 1
    }

    Should be:

    . .\mynestedconfig.ps1

    configuration parentconfig {
    mynestedconfig nested {
    param = 1
    }
    }

    btw, uservoice doens't allow me to keep indentation.... :(

    Any parameter like Name or Id implies the expected result to be explicitly defined. No doubt unless wildcards are allowed.

    When you forget to assign a value or the value is Null by accident or a bug results in a Null value and it's used with Name, it will be Null and therefore return all services. Not everyone is using strictmode :-)

    another example:
    a resource creating VMs or Containers and another resource creating NAT/PAT rules for these VMs / Containers by associating them to their IP address.
    Both resources can be developed generically and be repurposed for other scenarios because they will be loosely coupled.

    Adding my duplicate suggestion as comment :-)
    https://windowsserver.uservoice.com/forums/301869-powershell/suggestions/13559037-feature-req-exchange-data-between-resources?tracking_code=b52ff26ff6e91bf58210b66f06ff794b

    Currently, all data needed for a resource to work must be available at MOF compile time. If a resource depends on information which was not available at compile time we have to add logic to our resources to search for this information.
    Example:
    We have a resource which handles a certificate enrollment and another to bind the thumbprint to a web-binding. As we don't know the thumbprint up front, we have to add logic to the web-binding resource to have it search for, e.g. a friendly name or another attribute which was settable by the enrollment resource.

    Feature Req: It would be great if we could subscribe to result output of a resource. We could for example bind to NotConfigurable dsc property.
    This would allow for a more dynamic approach without the need to customize resource internals.

    Example pseudo:
    configuration PSEUDO {
    EnrollCert WebXSSL {
    EnrollMentService = 'https://enroll.me';
    Certtype = 'ServerAuth'
    }
    WebBinding WebXSSL {
    Name = X
    ThumbPrint = '[EnrollCert]WebXSSL.ThumbPrint'
    }
    }

    In this case, the enrollcert resource would have a NotConfigurable DSC property for thumbprint

    Hi Taylor,

    I already discussed the use case with Andy.
    Basically, we need to be able to set a Key property from a DSC perspective so we can be sure of a 100% match between running container and configuration.
    Currently the key property is managed externally from the cmdlets so we can never be 100% sure the container in question is the one we provisioned.
    Sorry for delayed response.. did not receive mail for your comment.
